An abject batting display has left the Proteas with some work to do to salvage a drawn series with Ireland.

Ireland had their opponents well sussed out and made the most of having an experienced batting lineup.

South Africa 17/100

Ireland

Ireland have again taken points off of one of the bigger nations in a Cricket World Cup Super League match but now they must rise to the occasion and clinch the series.

Andrew Balbirnie has led from the front and his hundred in the last match was the first ODI century for Ireland against South Africa but their entire top order contributed.

Ireland don’t have the bowling firepower of South Africa but they do know how to make use of the conditions.

While the hosts didn’t have a stand out bowler last time out, they pulled together well and all did their part in making a famous victory happen.

South Africa

The red-faced Proteas must find a response to a humiliating defeat which has thrown into question the team’s management and leadership.

Without Quinton de Kock the Proteas look decidedly average at the top of the order and were outgunned by their opposition, comfortably.

Janneman Malan did an admirable job of standing in for the star man, but neither he nor Rassie van der Dussen could kick on and make the big score they needed to get the win.

Andile Phehlukwayo’s loss of form with the ball has p;laced his future in the ODI side in doubt with Wiaan Mulder making a strong case for inclusion ahead of him.

Verdict: South Africa 17/100

Another loss to Ireland could bring down the Proteas team management.
