MODC: BuildNat Cape Cobras vs Hollywoodbets Dolphins

Batsman_Hits_Ball

The Dolphins will look to get back to winning ways when they travel to Boland Park to take on the Cape Cobras.

Bottom takes on second in Wednesday evening’s only Momentum One Day Cup as the BuildNat Cape Cobras prepare to welcome the Hollywoodbets Dolphins to Boland Park.

Can the Dolphins bounce back after a disappointing result against the Warriors on Friday or will the Cobras start moving up the table? We find out below:

BuildNat Cape Cobras vs Hollywoodbets Dolphins | Wednesday 8 March | Boland Park | 14:00

To Win Match
Cobras 82/100 | Tie 35/1 | Dolphins 1/1

BuildNat Cape Cobras
The Cobras come into this game off the back of a narrow defeat at the hands of the Lions over the weekend. The men from the Western Cape set what I thought was a pretty good total in tricky batting conditions in Boland, scrapping their way to 244 all out in their 50 overs.

Their total would eventually be chased down by the Gauteng franchise with just a ball to spare, condemning Ashwell Prince to his third defeat of the season. Prince, however, shouldn’t let that defeat get to him too much, as his side are still very much in the hunt for a play-off place.

The top order will need to get their heads straight following that defeat. Richard Levi, Omphile Ramela and Stiaan van Zyl were all dismissed inside of four overs on Sunday. Had it not been for a middle order fightback from Justin Ontong, Dane Vilas, Aviwe Mgijima and Dane Piedt; the Cobras could well have folded for a double-figure total.

Dane Paterson should be back in the squad following his return from New Zealand. He possesses enough pace to rattle even the best in the business with his List A average (24.26) and economy rate (4.60) speaking volumes for his ability.

Hollywoodbets Dolphins
The Hollywoodbets Dolphins are a bit like the Liverpool of the Momentum One Day Cup – they put in scintillating performances one week and disappoint the next. It was more of the same on Friday evening as the KZN franchise caught a hiding at the hands of the Warriors.

They’ll be looking to bounce back against the more fancied Cobras this Wednesday. Morne van Wyk and Cameron Delport* should both back from their Pakistan Super League endeavours to bolster the top order. Van Wyk should step straight back into the team while Delport may have to wait his turn with Vaughn van Jaarsveld in pretty good nick at the moment.

If Grant Morgan is looking to force Delport back into the side, we may see Kyle Nipper fall away. Delport can fill the void Nipper leaves with the ball, albeit in a different capacity while his batting can be world class if he gets going.

The spinners are likely to play a massive role in this game. Expect Prenelan Subrayen and Senuran Muthusamy to get through plenty of work. Skipper Khaya Zondo could also get in on the action if required while Delport’s cutters will prove handy on a slow deck.

Verdict: Hollywoodbets Dolphins 1/1
Despite being away from home, I think that the Dolphins just shade this one. They’ve got a well-balanced team and one heavy defeat against the Warriors shouldn’t define them as a team. Grant Morgan will have the boys working hard to get back to winning ways. You also need to factor in the possible return of Cameron Delport who – if he is available – can provide the Dolphins with the kick they need to challenge for the title.

*Cameron Delport is unavailable due to concussion.
