NEWS: Dolphins fight hard on day one against Warriors

The Warriors won the toss and took first strike in good batting conditions and made the Dolphins graft for their wickets throughout the day as they managed to finish the day on 344 for six.

The morning session belonged to the visiting side with their opening batsmen making good use of the hard, new ball as they got off to a fast start putting on 54 for the first wicket before Wihan Lubbe holed out off Eathan Bosch for 30.

40 runs later and the Dolphins had their second wicket when Daryn Dupavillon had Matthew Breetzke trapped in front for 41 and the Warriors were 94 for two in the twenty-fourth over of the day.

The Warriors went into lunch on 135 for two from 32 overs with Lesiba Ngoepe and captain Rudi Second at the crease as the Dolphins managed to pull the scoring rate back after the fast start.

After lunch the Dolphins managed to put together some more tight spells which led to the third wicket when Ngoepe was caught at second slip by captain Marques Ackerman for 43 with the score on 145; then three runs later Bosch had his second, Diego Rosier LBW for two.

In the afternoon session the visitors continued to score runs with captain Second and wicket-keeper Sinethemba Qeshile putting on 89 for the fifth wicket before Ackerman picked up Qeshile reverse sweeping. The catch was also wicket-keeper Slade van Staden’s first for the Dolphins.

Second went to a hundred before he became Bosch’s third wicket when he was bowled through the gate for 120.

Tristan Stubbs and Tiaan van Vuuren then took the Warriors to the close as they ended on 344 for six from the 98 overs.

Eathan Bosch was the pick of the Dolphins bowlers with three for 56 in 19 overs in trying conditions. There were also wickets for Daryn Dupavillon, Kerwin Mungroo and captain Marques Ackerman.
