Positive week for KZN provincial sides

Durban – It was another strong showing from both the Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal and Hollywoodbets KZN Inland sides in their CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup and Provincial One-Day Cup clashes over the past week.


Both sides went undefeated through the four days of cricket with both sides playing out draws, Coastal against Boland and Inland against EP, and then both sides won their fifty over matches on Sunday.

Coastal was in the Western Cape facing Boland at Boland Park in Paarl.

In the three day match the Coastal side would have felt they could have seriously pushed for a win after going into Boland’s second innings with a lead over 121.

Calvin Savage was the stand-out player for Coastal as he bagged 5/38 with the ball and then backed that up with 104 not out with the bat to put his side in a strong position. Zakhele Gwabe chipped in with three for 43 with the ball.

Boland were 313 for nine in their second innings when they game ended in a draw.

The fifty over game on Sunday was an exciting affair with the game going down to the final delivery as Coastal snuck home by one run to give them a first fifty over victory of the season.

Thamsanqa Khumalo top scored for the Coastal side with 61 while Brad Proteous added 41 to the score with the side ending on 284 for eight in their 50 overs.

In reply, Keith Dudgeon picked up three wickets for 47 in his ten overs as Boland was bowled out for 283 handing KZN Coastal a morale-boosting win.

Hollywoodbets KZN Inland was at home at the Pietermaritzburg Oval for their two matches against Eastern Province, who have won three games in the 3-Day Cup and are sitting at the top of Pool A while Inland were searching for a much-needed win in the competition.

Hilton College school boy Slade van Staden was handed a first class debut by Inland as they were bowled out for 236 in their first innings with Luke Schlemmer (68) and Cody Chetty (58) top scoring.

EP put up a good fight in their first innings and they were eventually bowled out for 350 with Tyron Koen picking up four for fifty for the hosts.

In their second innings Inland were 262 for five when the game finished in a draw with Cody Chetty not out on 119 and youngster Van Staden chimed in with 36 in the second innings.

Inland then showed their white ball ability on the Sunday with a powerful 44 run win over Eastern Province.

Batting first it was again Schlemmer and Chetty that starred with the bat scoring 61 and 64 respectively in a total of 246 for eight.

In reply the EP side was bowled out for 202 with left-arm spinner Nduduzo Mfoza the stand-out with four for 35.

As it stands currently, Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal are fourth in Pool B of the 3-Day Provincial Cup and sixth in Pool B of the One-Day Provincial Cup.

Hollywoodbets KZN Inland is currently sixth in Pool A in the 3-Day Provincial Cup and fourth in the One-Day Cup.

KZN Coastal’s next assignment is a meeting with Border in East London starting on Thursday, 27 February while KZN Inland will wait until 5 March before they play again. They are at home to Border in Pietermaritzburg.
