India won the series opener before South Africa fought back with their new skipper leading the way.

South Africa vs India | 11 – 15 January 2022 | Newlands, Cape Town

To Win Match

South Africa 17/10 | Draw 15/4 | India 1/1

South Africa

South Africa had a lot to be pleased about in their performance at the Wanderers but will be especially pleased with the leadership of Dean Elgar.

The pace attack have also limbered up and look to be close to their best, while Marco Jansen has emerged as a real find for the team.

South Africa are unlikely to change a winning formula and there has been no injury news out of their camp to date.

The Proteas middle-order have a real point to prove after their struggles in the series to date, but both Keagan Petersen and Rassie van der Dussen played their part in a successful chase last time out.

India

India see their inspirational skipper return and will be hoping that Virat Kohli gives them a competitive edge.

KL Rahul did a great job in Kohli’s absence and looks to be his team’s bright hope of victory, looking comfortable against the new ball.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane will both want to back up a return to form at the Wanderers and could also be crucial in India’s scrap for runs.

It is likely that neither side will struggle to take wickets and the most steadfast batting unit will lead their side to victory.

Verdict: India 1/1

The return of Kohli gives India the edge here.
