VKB Knights vs the Cape Cobras | Wednesday 11 November | De Beers Diamond Oval | 18:00

It’s fourth against sixth on Wednesday evening when the Cape Cobras travel to the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberly to take on the VKB Knights.

To Win Match
VKB Knights 27/20
Tie 35/1
Cape Cobras 6/10

VKB Knights
Although the men from the Free State find themselves at the bottom of the table, they have played fewer games than all of the other sides in the competition. They will have been bitterly disappointed to have lost out in their first game in which they fell to the Warriors in a Super Over.

The Knights’ second match saw them go up against the table-topping Sunfoil Dolphins at the De Beers Diamond Oval. The home side batted first on that occasion and posted a competitive 167-4 in their 20 overs with Theunis de Bruyn scoring a 45-ball century. The Dolphins came out firing with Cameron Delport racing to 34 off just 14 balls before being dismissed by Ryan McLaren. The joy was short-lived, though as Kevin Pietersen strode out to the wicket and smashed an unbeaten 100 off of just 54 balls. The men from KZN would go on to win by 9 wickets with plenty to spare.

If the Knights are to do well against a strong Cobras side, they’re going to need big batting performances from the likes of Reeza Hendricks, Ryan McLaren and Theunis de Bruyn.

Cape Cobras
The Cobras came into this tournament as the odds-on favourites to defend their title, however, a stuttering start has cast a few doubts over whether they can go all the way this season. The Cape side know that they will need to get a win over the Knights if they want to get their campaign back on track.

They went down last time out to a spirited Titans side who posted 173-5 in their allotted 20 overs, with Farhaan Berhadien top scoring with 61 off 46 balls. Worrying for the Cape side will be the form of Richard Levi and Andrew Puttick, they’ve not been particularly bad with Levi scoring a 50 in the competition so far; however, they simply haven’t kicked on and batted through. If one of these two guys can get going and hang around for the entirety of the innings, the Cobras will have every chance of winning on Wednesday evening.

Paul Adams’ side will be without Kieron Pollard who has been called up to the West Indian squad that is currently touring the Sri Lanka. They will also be without Robbie Peterson who broke a bone in his hand while fielding against the bizhub Highveld Lions.

Verdict: VKB Knights 27/20
Even though the Knights have yet to win a game in this season’s tournament, they’ve played some excellent, enterprising cricket thus far. They were extremely unlucky against the Warriors while Kevin Pietersen single-handedly destroyed them last time out. Back them to get their first win of the campaign on Wednesday against an out-of-sorts Cape Cobras side.
