Successful weekend for Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal

Khalipa Cele - Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal - Cricket - One Day Challenge

The Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal side made a strong start to their CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup campaign when they finished on the right side of a draw before winning their opening CSA One-Day Challenge clash, both matches against Border, on Sunday at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium.

The home side won the toss of the 3-day game and started well with the ball, Tyron Koen claiming 3/27 in 9.2 overs. Smangaliso Nhlebela also made his presence felt, taking 2/13 in four overs. Thula Ngcobo and Zakariya Paruk each took one wicket apiece in the first innings, as Border’s first innings ended on 130 all out.

In reply Coastal’s opener Michael Erlank fell early and was followed by captain Khalipa Cele soon after. Debutant Brad Porteous lost Marques Ackerman as a partner for 19 and Dudu Zondo for three before he was joined by Blyde Capell.

The pair of Capell and Porteous put on 96 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter was dismissed for 60, after registering his first first-class half century. By close of play on day one the KZN side were 193/6, a lead of 63 runs.

After a delay to the start of day two, the Coastal side were rocked by two quick wickets as Nhlebela and Paruk both fell without scoring.

Seamer Keith Dudgeon provided some support for Capell who was nearing a maiden first-class hundred, however Dudgeon fell for 10 and Capell was eventually dismissed just short of his ton, caught for 98.

Coastal posted 223 in their first innings, a lead of 93 runs.

In Border’s second innings, Dudgeon put in a strong effort to ensure that the visitors didn’t get off to a strong start, getting rid of both Border openers.

Paruk and Nhlebela both picked up a wicket each, compounded by a run out which left the visitors 126/5 – a lead of 33 runs with five wickets in hand.

Much to the frustration of the KZN side there was no play on the final day and the game ended in a draw with the Coastal side on the front foot.

On Sunday, a four-wicket haul from Daryn Dupavillon ensured victory for the Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal men as they took on Border in a CSA One-Day Challenge at Kingsmead.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat but lost stalwart Morné van Wyk early for six.

Dudu Zondo and captain Khalipa Cele then added 52 for the second wicket before Cele fell for 20. Zondo was dismissed after scoring a patient 44 off 60 balls. Marques Ackerman soon followed, falling for five.

The in-form Blyde Capell then joined Mike Erlank at the crease. A partnership of 51 followed before Capell was dismissed for 31. Tyron Koen followed a run later for a duck, leaving Coastal at 137/6.

Erlank’s 32, Smangaliso Nhlebela’s 26 and 24 not out off 15 balls from Daryn Dupavillon helped Coastal past the 200 mark to end on 218 all out.

In reply Border were under pressure early on and crumbled to 34/5 with Du Pavillon bagging three early scalps, while a run out accounted for the fourth and Thula Ngcobo claimed the other.

Coastal continued to drive home their advantage despite a 56 run sixth wicket stand for Border.

Dupavillon took his fourth wicket when Clayton Bosch was caught for 35 to leave Border reeling at 90/6.

Nhlebela and Tyron Koen picked up wickets before opener Bradley Williams was run out for 68. That left Border on 182/9, still needing 37 runs to win.

The third run out of the innings accounted for the tenth wicket with the score on 192, handing Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal a 26 run win.
