Third T20I: Australia vs Sri Lanka

Australia vs Sri Lanka

After another dire display by Sri Lanka in Brisbane the tourists have nothing to play for but pride, while Australia will be looking to complete the whitewash in Melbourne.

The series has gone as well for Australia as it has been dire for Sri Lanka and they will want to carry this spirit through the summer.

Australia
The hosts again obliterated Sri Lanka in the second T20I after an emphatic start to the series and crucially gave Steve Smith some time out in the middle.

Adam Zampa has been close to being the man of the series for Australia with his exploits with the ball but David Warner’s blistering form is the talk of the town Down Under.

Warner followed up a hundred in the series opener with an unbeaten 60 at the Gabba putting an indifferent Ashes behind him.

Australia look in good shape as they prepare to host the 2020 T20 World Cup but will face sterner tests than this Sri Lanka team along the way.

Sri Lanka
Two batting failures in two efforts paint a picture of a Sri Lanka team in continued crisis, despite the glimpses of promise shown in the last 12 months.

Sri Lanka have looked underprepared, perhaps that shouldn’t be surprising considering much of this squad refused to tour Pakistan.

Any progress the team makes is undermined by a lack of continuity in selection and administrative uncertainty.

Their top order showed application in Brisbane but lacked the fluency and flair that has always made the Lankans a dangerous T20 opponent.

Sri Lanka have to ask some big questions of their key players after this series and may have to show some the door.

Verdict: Australia
The Australians won’t be taking their foot off the gas.
