The Hollywoodbets Dolphins are still well and truly in the hunt for a Momentum One Day Cup play-off spot and will want to put their recent performances behind them when they take on the Warriors at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.
With two losses from their last two games the Dolphins will be hoping to put that right with just one game left after Wednesday’s clash.
The Warriors beat the Dolphins in the first edition of this fixture at Kingsmead but the side from PE is stuttering as the competition edges closer to the business end and have also lost their last two matches in the competition.
Currently the Warriors sit in second place on the log just two points ahead of the Dolphins which adds more spice to Wednesday’s encounter in the Friendly City.
Should the Dolphins win they will leapfrog the Warriors to 20 points with one game to play in the round robin phase.
The Dolphins have relied fairly heavily on Sarel Erwee in recent times as he has been their main source of runs with captain Khaya Zondo, Sibs Makhanya and Vaughn van Jaarsveld making contributions.
The side will need both batting and bowling to click together in order to beat a strong Warriors outfit.
From the bowling side, missing Robbie Frylinck has been a massive blow for a young Dolphins seam attack. With Eathan Bosch, Kerwin Mungroo and Okuhle Cele having to pick up the seam attack mantle they have learnt a lot of lessons this season when Frylinck and Andile Phehlukwayo have been absent.
The Dolphins have had three spinners in their side throughout the competition and Keshav Maharaj, Senuran Muthusamy and Prenelan Subrayen have been crucial to their campaign thus far. The spin trio will continue to carry the most responsibility with the seamers operating around them.
Going into Wednesday’s game the Dolphins will have the same squad of 15 to chose from as they had in Kimberley on Sunday.
The current log situation means that the Dolphins will need at least one win from their next two games in order to qualify for the semi-finals.
Should the Dolphins and the WSB Cape Cobras win their next games in the competition then the semi-final slots are sewn up, however should the VKB Knights beat the Cobras on Thursday then there will still be five teams in the hunt.
