West Indies v England: Third Test Preview

Third Test Preview

The West Indies are without their suspended skipper, but they have the series in the bag after dominating the tourists in the opening two encounters.

England have been poor and will be looking to improve their performance most of all, while a win will also spare some blushes.

West Indies v England | Saturday, 9 February – Wednesday, 13 February | Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia | 16:00

To Win Match
West Indies 5/4

Draw 15/2
England 9/10

West Indies
The West Indies have been robbed of their skipper, but they will also feel Jason Holder’s absence as a world-class allrounder.

Holder’s absence will leave opener Kraigg Brathwaite to lead the troops, while young all-rounder Keemo Paul has been recalled and looks likely to fill the captain’s place in the batting order and bowling attack.

Kemar Roach has been brilliant throughout the series, extracting movement where others have toiled without reward. Spin-bowling all-rounder Roston Chase has proven once again his x-factor player status by coming up with displays that seem above his abilities.

New head coach Richard Pybus will be thrilled with how the team has come together for his first series, with the shell of Stuart Law’s side enhanced by some of his own new additions.

England
Fragile batting has once again been at the heart of England’s failure, with the all-rounders unable to pull them from the fire.

Rory Burns and Joe Denly were given a baptism of fire as the new opening pair – and returned just 43 runs between them in Antigua.

Joe Root and his middle-order batsmen are also under the microscope after failing to turn up. With the series result already gone, they will want to at least put some runs on the board.

Conditions should prove a little easier for batting on a traditionally slower wicket in St Lucia.

Verdict: West Indies 5/4
The home side have matched England in every area and, even without Holder, should have enough to complete the whitewash.
