Zondo ton keeps Dolphins in control

A twelfth first-class hundred from Hollywoodbets Dolphins veteran Khaya Zondo helped the visitors strengthen their grip on day two of their 4-Day Domestic Series clash with the Dafabet Warriors at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Wednesday.

The Dolphins were in search of runs to put their clash with the Warriors to bed after they had done a good job with the ball on day one.

They began day two on 67 for two and continued to patiently accumulate runs with forty runs added by the pair of Senuran Muthusamy and Marques Ackerman before Muthusamy was the first wicket to fall for 52.

There was a slight wobble as Ackerman fell three balls later to the same fate – LBW to Stefan Tait – for nineteen.

At that stage the Dolphins were 108 for four with Ruan de Swardt joining Zondo at the crease.

Zondo compiled another innings of substance as he lost De Swardt, Eathan Bosch and Mangaliso Mosehle for the addition of 48 runs before Keshav Maharaj joined him with the score on 194 for seven.

Zondo went to his twelfth first-class century in a knock that was crucial to the Dolphins taking control of the clash.

Maharaj’s good form with the bat continued as he and Zondo put on 132 for the eighth wicket which took the Dolphins to 326 before Zondo was dismissed for 111 which included fifteen fours, three sixes and 235 deliveries.

Another crucial partnership then took place as Maharaj and Daryn Dupavillon strung together 32 for the penultimate wicket before Maharaj fell for 66 and then Kerwin Mungroo was dismissed for a duck as the Dolphins were bowled out for 358.

The Warriors went into their second innings with a deficit of 234 runs to overturn.

The hosts fought back well in their second innings and went to stumps on 88 without loss.

Eddie Moore was 42 not out and Gihagn Cloete was undefeated on 39. The Warriors will still have a deficit of 146 to overcome on day three before the Dolphins have to bat again.
