Race 4

There are three unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, MACKINAW may prove to be the best in what looks to be a tricky start to the day’s Jackpot. He has only had the three runs to date, but made solid improvement when finishing second last time out over five furlongs, just a half length behind the winner. He was only run out of it in the closing stages that day and jumps from a handy draw five. He also gets a set of blinkers fitted for the first time today, which should help him keep his mind on the task at hand.

TWIN SEAS finished third on debut over five furlongs, two and a half lengths back from the winner, despite being friendless in the betting markets and the form of that race has been franked. He returns from a 23-week break and has not had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he is drawn one outside the top choice and would have learnt from that experience, so should be right up there when they hit the line.

DON’T DOUBT KATIE is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she overraced in the early stages and had to be steadied off the heels of other runners at the 700M mark, but still managed to finish third when having her first outing over five furlongs, just over two lengths adrift of the victor. She will have to negotiate the widest draw of them all in gate seventeen, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 5

Two 4yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but EMPOWERMENT is taken to lead the pack home. She has won two of her last three outings, the latest over six furlongs by 1.3L, this despite being bumped at the start. She struck the front at the 200M pole that day and then held off the chasing pack well. She jumps from a cozy gate four and should turn in another honest performance today.

CHOMEUR is drawn one inside the top pick and has won two of her last four runs. She followed up her penultimate start victory over seven furlongs with a staying on second place finish next time out over the same trip, just a half length off the winner. She will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.

BERRUTI has cracked pole position and made solid improvement when finishing second last time out over seven furlongs, a length back from the winner. He was slow away that day, but made good late progress over the latter stages. A repeat of that last effort would make him a big runner in this contest.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, SUPERIOR WITNESS is a speedy sort who won his penultimate outing over five furlongs by two and a half lengths and then led into the home straight before ending up in second spot next time out over the same sprint distance, two lengths adrift of the winner. He is drawn the widest in gate twelve, but should put his gate speed to good effect and move across without using up too much gas.

BAIYKA is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she put her disappointing penultimate start firmly behind her when winning her next outing over five furlongs by a head. She on the other hand has pulled pole position and a repeat of that last effort would make sure that she gives the boys a good run for their money.

BALLISTIC MOON won his penultimate outing over five furlongs and then ended up in fifth place next time out over the same c&d, 4.3L behind the winner, but it should be noted that the form of that race has stood up well with four runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He has gate eight and has his first run since a 21 weeks rest, but has had the two barrier trials, winning the latest to prove his well-being. He should be included in all bets.

Race 7

MISS KINGSTON is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she has posted two solid recent runs, finishing a short-head second in her penultimate start over five furlongs and then following that up with her maiden win next time out when stepping up to today’s distance. She jumped awkwardly that day and then raced four wide into the home straight before finishing strongly to claim a 1.8L victory. She faces a wide draw fifteen out of sixteen, but is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the closing stages. As such, she is made the best bet on the day’s card.

DEPLOYS ALONE shows plenty of toe in his races and ended up in seventh place last time out over five furlongs, four and a half lengths behind the winner. He has pulled draw eleven, but on the plus side, will have 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

OWHATA CRUMPET is a 5yr old mare who has finished third in her last two starts, the latest over this trip, 5.3L behind the winner. She stayed on well that day and from a slightly better draw seven, she should be involved in the finish.
