The competitiveness of this year’s edition has meant that a number of teams still stand a chance to join the Griquas in the semi-finals next week, though it may be a tough ask for some.

The men from Pretoria can go through by thrashing the Sharks and denying them a bonus-point in the process, while also hoping that the Cheetahs give Western Province a thump earlier in the day.

Unfortunately for them, though, a loss to the Durbanites by more than seven, coupled with a failure to pick up a bonus-point themselves will see them fall below the Pumas into seventh (and last) place; ultimately meaning they will have to play in the promotion-relegation game at season’s end.

The Sharks, meanwhile, will qualify with a big win at Loftus. However, they could even host a semi-final if the Lions and Cheetahs fail to pick up victories over the Griquas and WP respectively.

Despite playing away, the Sharks should be considered favourites. The potential return of Curwin Bosch will likely make a big difference to their backline following last week’s narrow win in Johannesburg.

Verdict: Sharks 9/10
The Bulls have never truly threatened to fire this year and one would expect them to officially bow out of the title race this weekend. Whether or not they will avoid the relegation-zone, however, remains to be seen.
