Magic Tips Best Bets

TOP BET

Race 1: WELSH EMPEROR(14)

Jockey: Greg Cheyne – Trainer: Duncan MCKENZIE

WELSH EMPEROR was unfancied when he produced a cracking debut over this c & d, recently. He was understandably green but ran on strongly in the closing stages for a good 2nd, beaten three parts of a length at the wire. The 3rd placed runner was touched off subsequently and that boosts the form. This inmate from the Greeff yard would have come on appreciably from that experience and he should go close today.

Race 2: FORT KALIMENTA(2)                 Jockey: Andrew Fortune – Trainer: Grant PADDOCK

Some very average staying maidens go to post here and the Grant Paddock yard has a decent hand with their duo of FORT KALIMENTA and DREAMFOREST. The former continues to be consistent on both local tracks and he has the best credentials in this line-up. This trip will suit him perfectly and he could make a winning return after being gelded, exactly one month ago.

Race 3: LADY MARSHALL(11)

Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

This is another ordinary maiden event and obvious caution is advised. The red-hot combination of trainer Dorrie Sham and jockey Karl Zechner team up aboard the form filly LADY MARSHALL, who has crucially drawn 3. This daughter of Parade Leader has shown smart improvement since her shocking debut and she finished 3rd in her only c & d attempt. The form of her last run was franked when the runner up won easily next time out and she deserves obvious respect.

Race 4: CUP CAKE(5)

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

CUP CAKE has produced solid form from day one but she has been costly to follow since her facile maiden victory. Nevertheless, she probably didn’t enjoy setting her own pace when nabbed late by the improving LOVE EVERLASTING over 1300m on the polytrack, two weeks ago. She could prefer racing on the grass today and has definite claims on the 2kgs favourable weight reversal with her conqueror. The Snaith inmate certainly has a score to settle and her good draw is an obvious advantage

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: STRAW MARKET(9)

Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

STRAW MARKET has struggled for his deserved next career win despite some useful form. He will strip fitter after no doubt needing his comeback run and his stable has been in excellent form in recent weeks. The seven-year old Windrush gelding has a bit to find with the champion RED BARREL on recent meetings but perhaps the change to top jockey Greg Cheyne could make a significant difference. The Dorrie Sham inmate is certainly capable of upsetting the likely short-priced favourite.
