Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: CHESTNUT(5)
Jockey: C STOREY – Trainer: C LENSLEY

Just eight entrants go to post for this extremely competitive maiden contest which should yield an exciting finish. CHESTNUT had a much improved local debut over six furlongs recently and can certainly build on that showing. The former KZN resident was returning from a 20-week layoff so will strip fitter now and he could enjoy blinkers over this minimum distance. His jockey finally broke a lean spell with a winner at this venue recently and that is sure to give him lots of confidence.

Race 3: JAMROCK(1)
Jockey: M YENI – Trainer: C LENSLEY

JAMROCK
has improved smartly with each of his three local starts and he was beaten just a neck into 2nd over a mile, three weeks ago. He finished just under two lengths clear of the 3rd placed finisher Jozi Babe (runs in next race) that day and is the clear first selection in this very moderate maiden field. He will enjoy the services of last season’s Kimberley champion jockey Yeni, who often gets his mounts into the event early on. The drop in distance won’t be an issue and the four-year old gelding is the one to beat.

Race 4: MATHS MAJOR(2)
Jockey: C MURRY – Trainer: M N PRINSLOO

MATHS MAJOR
is the obvious form choice in this opening leg of the Pick 6, with the only reservation being her wide draw. This is possibly her best distance and she challenged strongly when beaten just a head into 2nd against male rivals last time out. It could pay to follow the progress of Jamrock in the prior event as this bay filly finished almost two lengths clear of that rival behind Howling Tom last time out. She will prefer facing her own sex today and is still the one to beat despite the barrier position. Her yard’s horses have turned the corner in great fashion over the past few weeks.

MATHS MAJOR(2)

Race 5: RED SPECIAL(6)

Jockey: G Wrogemann – Trainer: S Miller

RED SPECIAL had a brilliant start to his local career as the Kahal gelding thumped his field over this c & d nine days ago, despite jumping from a poor draw. He was deservedly handed the maximum eight-pound penalty but the four-year-old clearly seems to have plenty more to offer in this province and he now jumps from the best draw. The Stephanie Miller inmate takes a rise in class but he could still be ahead of the handicapper and has huge claims of following up.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: SEATTLE SUNSET(3)
Jockey: M V.Rensburg- Trainer: W G C Miller
SEATTLE SUNSET has faced much stronger for quite some time now and he once again reverts to sprinting after tackling the mile. He is unbeaten from two c & d efforts and was a good victor in his penultima- te start after returning from a 15-week break. The five-year-old gelding is again well drawn and he should give another very good account of himself, despite his big mass.
