SILKY ANNOUNCE has her quirks but she has shown consistent form and the five-year-old mare has a bright chance in this opening contest. Her c & d record indicates that she is mostly effective over the minimum distance but the daughter of Announce had legitimate excuses on 26/10. Her recent change of tactics has helped her cause and she has run on well in her last two starts suggesting that this trip could suit her better now. Last season’s Kimberley champion jockey Muzi Yeni is a regular pilot on the five-year-old. The riding engagements indicate that she is the stable’s pick.

JOZI BABE, like her jockey, has struck up some good form recently & she was only outrun late into 2nd over seven furlongs last Monday. She finished a creditable 3rd against male rivals over this track & trip prior to that and can go close from a good draw today. She faces an ordinary field.

OVER ACHIEVER brings useful recent form into this low-key handicap and the topweight has cracked the best draw. She holds a decent c & d record and gets the nod in a tricky event.

Race 7: JEWEL QUEST(1)
The three-year-old JEWEL QUEST is unbeaten from two efforts on this track and she does seem a quality sort in the making. She handles her racing very well and wasn’t disgraced on the Highveld last time out. Incidentally, the daughter of Argonaut was having her third start inside ten days when weakening into 4th in that latest start in Gauteng. She deserved the eight-week break and would have strengthened. This is the Corne’ Spies inmate’s acid test but she is way above-average and could still come out on top despite conceding weight to many older rivals.

Race 3: DODGY DUTCHIE(11)
Jockey: A FORTUNE – Trainer: P SMITH
The lightly raced DODGY DUTCHIE was badly outpaced in his last sprint over the minimum distance but he had a fair debut over six furlongs prior to that. He obviously has some ability and it is encouraging that his conditioner steps him up to the mile. The son of King’s Apostle is well drawn and he could relish this trip. His veteran jockey Andrew Fortune had a winner for this stable last week.
