Race 4: ROCKET FALLS(5)
Race 5: JAY BOY(5)
Race 6: DOCTOROW(9)
Race 9: AUTUMN ENCORE(2)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: SHARP PEG(2)
Jockey: R SIMONS – Trainer: S VON WILLINGH

SHARP PEG, like many of her rivals in this opening event on this ‘big day’ is having her local debut. The former Cape resident showed some good ability in the ‘Mother City’ and she was outrun late into 2nd against male rivals over this distance in her penultimate effort. She is blessed with speed which is a major asset on this surface and she should be competitive for her in-form new yard.

Race 3: DEVIOUS TIGER(1)
Jockey: *Not Declared – Trainer: C BINDA

The six-year-old gelding DEVIOUS TIGER has a fine c & d record and it must be noted that the Gauteng resident was carded to race at the Vaal on 04/08. He has been campaigning against stronger on the Highveld for some time and his conditioner has tasted success when racing his charges in a short space of time. The bay gelding is well drawn and he can land the honours.

TOP BET
Race 5: COMMODORE AL(3)
Jockey: A FORTUNE – Trainer: G M ALEXANDER

The veteran Gauteng campaigner COMMODORE AL is still loving his racing and he ran on the stronger to win a low-key staying handicap over 2600m at Turffontein, a fortnight ago. He hasn’t been disgraced on the grass but his far superior sand rating tells the full story and the son of Captain Al had an affinity for the Vaal sand track. He should be severely tested by the locals but still holds strong claims on his course debut.

Race 7: VINCENTE(3)
Jockey: G WROGEMANN – Trainer: LW GOOSEN

The Louis Goosen stable holds a strong hand in this non-black type sprint over the minimum distance but last year’s winner VARBRATION could play second fiddle to his stable companion VINCENTE who is also a son of Var. The latter is extremely capable on his day but may have been unsuited to the polytrack at Greyville when finishing out of the money on July Day. The five-year-old entire’ had some high-quality form prior to stepping up to Grade 1 company three runs back. He receives a handy 3.5kgs from his stable companion and could be the right one. The former contested the same event as the top rating at Greyville last time and in fact finished half a length better off. He has much more to do at the weights but is unbeaten over this c & d and must go in again.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 9: GOLD STATUS(4)
Jockey: A FORTUNE – Trainer: C BINDA

The Gauteng raider GOLD STATUS showed his well-being when only outrun late into 2nd over six furlongs at the Vaal, three weeks ago. He was only given a one pound penalty for his troubles and the Clinton Binda inmate has now cracked the best draw in his peak outing. He finished a creditable 3rd in his last appearance on this track.
