Jockey Comments – Vodacom Durban July 2017

The jockeys riding in the 2017 Vodacom Durban July provide comments on their horses in South Africa’s biggest race. Read more here.

Grant van Niekerk – Black Arthur is doing very well and I will be giving him a little workout tomorrow (Tuesday). I am quite confident about his winning chance.

Anthony Delpech – Nightingale has an outside chance.

Aldo Domeyer – Krambambuli is a nice horse who stays the trip but unfortunately he has a bad draw. There is always a ‘dark horse’ in the race and I am hoping that he is that.

Piere Strydom – On his best form It’s My Turn has a big chance. In saying that he does have a terrible draw to contend with and I am disappointed that he hasn’t had another run.

Anton Marcus –  Edict Of Nantes is in a good place but this July is a very open race.

MJ Byleveld – Master Sabina has a good draw and is a tough horse. This July could be rough so this will be in his favour. He is looking very well and will be suited to a tough race.

Bernard Fayd’herbe – Marinaresco ran below expectations in his last run but he has come on since that effort and I will be working him again on Thursday. He is a small horse carrying a big weight and also against him is the fact that the July can be a pretty rough race. If things go his way I am expecting a big race from him.

Greg Cheyne – Tilbury Fort. I was very happy with his gallop last Thursday at Greyville. I was told not to expect much in his work but he felt in good order to me. I am very excited to be riding a horse for South Africa’s leading trainer and it does give one a lot of confidence. As far as I am concerned all feels good to me and now I must go out and make it happen.

Richard Fourie – I rode Horizon in work on Monday and he gave me a great feel. He has lots of substance and is carrying a very handy weight. I am expecting a big run from him,” said Richard with a lot of confidence.          

S’manga Khumalo – Al Sahem. His prep has gone on without a hitch and trainer Tarry has him spot on. My record on him is 100% and he has a great draw of 1. I am going into the race full of confidence and I am very positive of having a great run on him.
