Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

SHOGUNNAR finally landed that elusive second career win, ten days ago and the son of Solskjaer did so with a determined performance. Admittedly, he was extremely well treated by the weights but he was returning from a 14 week break on a new track and had to do things the hard way. Still, he fought back courageously after being headed inside the final furlong and got up by a long head. That run would have brought him on considerably and he is many lengths better over today’s extra furlong. His trainer has once again found him a good race as he is comfortably best in on official ratings and he should take a power of beating.

Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Alan HIGGINS

PRIVATE DOOWALEY has had enough chances but he has shown some very useful staying form and is hardly beaten far. He clearly needed his comeback sprint last time but once again was only beaten just under four lengths into fifth and he will strip much fitter. He takes a big jump in distance but went close to winning over 2500m on this course, three runs back. He gets top pilot Fayd’Herbe in the irons and can pull off a deserved victory.

Race 6: GLENTON(6)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

GLENTON is lightly raced and is improving with each start. He is the form runner in this contest and has clearly benefitted from being gelded. He just held on to win his maiden over 1300m in his penulti- mate effort but built on that with a good subsequent performance. The Jallad gelding raced handy in that post maiden run over six furlongs but was gaining at the finish when beaten one length into 2nd by a decent sort. He has his third run after the break today and should love every bit of this extra furlong. The Snaith inmate is drawn handily at barrier 4 and should go extremely well.

Race 9: JET TURBINE(4)
Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Yogas GOVENDER

JET TURBINE is improving nicely but she was dealt a cruel blow at the start of her last run. The Jet Master filly lost two lengths coming out of the gate but produced a strong finish and was beaten just under one length at the wire over a mile. Today’s extra furlong is right up her alley and she merits respect. Of course, she must jump on terms.

Race 1: VADE MECUM(3) (Each Way)
Jockey: Girish GOOMANY – Trainer: Eric SANDS

A competitive opening contest but the lurker in the pack could be the lightly raced daughter of Modus Vivendi, VADE MECUM. She produced a smashing effort on debut over this c & d at long odds in late July but has had two very poor subsequent efforts around the turn at Durbanville. She is clearly better than those last two runs and she reverts to her best c & d, which could be key. She gets a 2.5kgs apprentice claim and her conditioner has equipped her with blinkers for the first time. Obviously, the fitting of blinkers is a concern but they could spark some life back into the filly.
