Golden Arrows coach Steve Komphela says Nkanyiso Mngwengwe will be sorely missed by his teammates, having been an “influential and great leader”.
The Premier Soccer Club revealed the player’s sad passing on Monday after he reportedly collapsed at his home.
The 30-year-old had captained the side, having joined Arrows from Umgeni City Movers FC by former coach Manqoba Mngqithi in 2013.
Komphela told FARPost: “He was a great leader, very quiet and influential.
“The information you get from the youngsters was the support he gave them. He guided them a lot. He helped introduce some of the youngsters into Golden Arrows.
“Even though he had an injury, he was on his way back. He was a great influence to the youngsters, always willing to help them settle in at the club.”
Mngwengwe played over 140 games for Abafana Bes’thende.
