Darry Worthington previews the British Grand Prix, which is being held at Silverstone on Sunday the 2nd of August.
Mercedes will be looking for yet another solid showing on home soil when Lewis and the boys take to Silverstone this coming Saturday. The Mercedes ace is the strong favourite to claim this one, which is no surprise considering he’s won four of the last five Grand Prix staged here.

Well, another and yet another Mercedes double on the podium. This time, however, Hamiton and Bottas had Max Verstappen sandwiched between them as the Red Bul man brought his car home behind Hamilton to claim second-place.
The Hungarian Grand Prix actually proved to be a rather decent one for Reb Bull who managed to claim a solid points tally with Alexander Albon bringing his car round in fifth. He was joined in the top six by Lance Strol (fourth) and Sebastian Vettel (sixth).
Vettel’s sixth-place finish was as good as it would get for Ferrari as Charles LeClerc could only manage an 11th place finish brining his car in behind Sergio Perez (seventh), Daniel Ricciardo (eighth), Carlos Sainz (ninth) and Kevin Magnussen (tenth).
Track
The track, which functioned as Royal Air Force base at the close of the Second World War, has been a staple on the modern Formula 1 calendar since hosting its inaugural race – back in 1987.
The total race distance for Sunday will be 306.332km with each of the 52 laps containing 18 turns. The corners that will provide the biggest challenge to drivers will be the amalgamation of Maggots, Becketts and Chapel. The left-right-left-right-left combination will push the cars’ dexterity to their limits. The track’s two DRS zones are located at the Wellington Straight and the pit straight.
Last year’s podium was a very familiar-looking one with Lewis Hamilton perched at the top alongside Valterri Bottas (second) and Ferrari man Charles LeClerc (third). Hamilton claimed the fastest lap while Bottas took pole in qualifying.
While there’s a bit of drizzle being forecast for the weekend, it looks like conditions for race day will be good with temperatures in the low twenties being forecast at the time of writing.
Value Bet
Valterri Bottas – Fastest Qualifier 2/1
I’m really enjoying the old Valterri Bottas to claim pole bet at the moment. While the Finn has only managed to claim pole in one of this year’s three races, he’s still usually priced up at 2/1 and over. That’s the case this weekend with the Mercedes man trading at exactly 2/1 to land pole position.
Bottas has a decent qualifying record at Silverstone claiming pole at the venue last year. He’ll find it tough going to beat Hamilton to first spot on the grid but he’s still worth a small punt.
To Win Race Outright
Lewis Hamilton @4/10
There’s no real value here as Hamilton is extremely short at 4/10. Baring a crash or a mechanical failure, the Brit will take this one. He’s already won two of this year’s three Grand Prix and has an impeccable record at Silverstone having won four of the last five Grand Prix held here.
