The Deutsche Bank Championship | Friday 04 September – Monday 07 September | TPC Boston
This week the second event in the FedEx Cup tees off at TPC Boston and the Top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings will make their way to this historic course hoping to make it through to the next round. Last week the Barclays did not disappoint as Jason Day fired on all cylinders on his way to an outstanding victory but you can be sure things won’t be so easy this time around as Rory McIlroy returns to the fold. He’ll certainly be eager to stamp his authority on the game once again and will be hoping he can knock Jordan Spieth down a notch or two, especially after Spieth missed the cut last week.
A quick look at the course shows that it is a par 71 measuring 7,214 yards. Over the years the layout has provided some exciting finishes and this week promises to be no different. Last year Chris Kirk surprised everyone and walked away the winner so don’t ignore the bigger priced players, there’s definitely value to be found this week. So what are we looking for? Well the course doesn’t play particularly long so distance off the tee isnt crucial. Accuracy is though and hitting the fairway is a must for any potential winner. History shows that this one is won and lost on the greens so keep a close eye on putting stats; on the dancefloor is where the magic happens in Boston.

VALUE BETS
Bubba Watson (20/1 a win, 44/10 a place)
I tipped Watson last week and he got things off to a flying start but despite looking like he would be the man to beat after the first round, he slowed down a bit and never really got going again. Although he seemed a bit uninspired at times his game did look to be in good shape at the Barclays and I’m hoping he manages to play four good rounds in Boston this week. If he can do that he has a real chance of winning here. Each way is the bet for me.
Justin Rose (16/1 a win, 7/2 a place)
Rose is one of those golfers who always rises to the occasion and ups his game in the big tournaments and against a field like this I have a feeling he will thrive. Last week he got off to an awful start and shot a five-over 77, but he managed to move past that and eventually finish inside the Top 20. Had he played consistently over the four days he would have been a serious competitor and I think he has what it takes to string four good rounds together in Boston. I’m certain Rose has another win in him this year, let’s hope it comes this week.
Steven Bowditch (125/1 a win, 27/1 a place)
Steven Bowditch is always a player to keep an eye on and although he may struggle to beat this field, he certainly has it in him to finish inside the Top 5. Last week he came out on Sunday and stunned everyone with an absolutely flawless display of golf which gave him a respectable Top 15 finish and based on that he’ll arrive here confident and ready to go. Sure, he could just as easily fall apart and miss the cut but at these odds I fancy taking that chance. Each way is my bet on Bowditch.

Jordan Spieth (15/2 a win, 31/20 a place)
The fact that Spieth missed the cut last week has ensured he’s available at a very appealing 15/2 this week and I have the feeling that this will be the last time for a while he’ll be available at a price like that. He’s been the man to beat almost every time he’s teed off and although he’ll have McIlroy and Day hot on his heels, the pressure is nothing he’s not used to. Last week aside, it seems as though every aspect of his game is in great shape and I’m hoping he returns to form here. I’m making Spieth my bet of the week, get on.
