Things haven’t really gone to plan for POMP AND POWER since finishing second behind Safe Passage in the 2022 running of the Daily News 2000. He jumped in the Hollywoodbets Durban July as favourite but would only finish 10th, over seven lengths off SPARKLING WATER.
Subsequent runs in the Bantry Bay Stakes, WSB Green Point Stakes and the Anthonij Rupert Wyne Premier Trophy yielded finishes of 14th, 8th and 8th. Not ideal form coming into the Met. Key to his chances will be overcoming the wide draw and Kabelo Matsunyane getting him to settle early on.
