Winning Form Best Bets
Race 1: DIAMOND TIGER(9)
Race 2: GLAM I AM(6)
Race 3: KIMMI DE LAGO(7)
Race 5: PEREGRINE POWER(9)
Race 1: STAGE GIRL(4)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Alan GREEFF
A competitive opening contest but the draws are often crucial on this track and STAGE GIRL could hold the edge, especially if she jumps on terms. The Greeff inmate has had her fair share of chances but she has kept her form well recently, particularly on this shorter run-in. She wasn’t disgraced when making late progress behind male rivals over a mile last time and is back against her own sex today. The daughter of Greys Inn jumps from a good draw and seems to be at her level best over this slightly shorter trip. She should be right up with the pace and merits healthy respect.
Race 4: GOOLGOOLA(3)
Jockey: Robert KHATHI – Trainer: D A McLachlan/D McKenzie
GOOLGOOLA renews his rivalry with BUDWEISER BOY with the score sitting at 1-2, in favour of the latter. The pair have met in their last three starts and the top rating was a good winner of his penultimate outing over this c & d. However, he could only manage third 1.75 lengths adrift of the latter, again over this c & d, three weeks ago. But, he is now 2kgs better off at the weights and that should bring the pair much closer. The latter was deservedly handed a four pound penalty for his last win. He found a strong finish after being drawn badly on that occasion but got up close to home. The son of Miesque’s Approval has cracked a midfield draw this time around and he is a huge contender.
Race 5: ZEZINHO CAMPEAO(6) – TOP BET
Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Gavin SMITH
ZEZINHO CAMPEAO is often thereabouts and has been threatening to record his 5th career win for some time now. He has a fair record and is yet to win on this track but ran above his rating when caught late after setting the pace in a feature over this c & d, two weeks ago. He was beaten just over half a length into third and had the faster finishing runner-up GIANDUJA, exactly half a length ahead of him, that day. However, he meets the latter on 2kgs better terms and has strong claims of reversing the form. He could again enjoy the run of the race and gets the services of an in-form jockey.
Race 7: LEMON FIZZ(10)
LEMON FIZZ is improving again and he has finished close-up in his last two starts. He is versatile in the way he races as he set the pace and was only caught late over a mile on this track in his penulti- mate start. Then, the son of The Sheik ran on nicely for a close 4th over six furlongs last time out and has no issues with today’s trip. His jockey knows him well and it will be interesting to see what tactics are adopted today. He has definite claims in this line-up.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 6: MING WARRIOR(4) (Each Way)
Jockey: Gareth WRIGHT – Trainer: Jacques STRYDOM
This is a very competitive contest but MING WARRIOR has an eye-catching turn of foot and he could be the right one here, if he handles the extra furlong. He has certainly improved since being equipped with blinkers and ran on well to win over a mile on this track, five weeks ago. He received a four pound penalty but is drawn in pole position again and could enjoy the run of the race. He has placed over ten furlongs so there is plenty of hope for the son of Miesque’s Approval.
