Race 7

PAPA JOHN has consistent formlines to his name, having finished third twice prior to ending up in second place last time out over 1280M, just a short-head behind the winner, this despite coming four wide into the home straight. He finished strongly that day and seems certain to enjoy the slightly longer trip here. He has a wideish gate nine, but he will be doing his best work late. He renews his rivalry with FREE RIDER who finished sixth in the race mentioned above, 1.2L behind the winner.

The latter had to be held up at the top of the straight, but still finished off his race well. He meets the top choice on 2kgs better terms and has a kinder gate two, so there should not be much separating the pair when they hit the line.

FOREVER JUDE is another who competed in that same contest, finishing fifth, 1.2 lengths back from the winner when returning from a 16-week rest. He is drawn in gate five and meets the top choice on exactly the same weight terms today, so he may struggle to reverse that result, but nevertheless, he should be right up there in the mix.

Race 8

CLASSY REBEL has won three of his last four starts, the latest over 1280M by one and a half lengths when going from jump to wire. He battled all the way down to the line that day and seems likely to appreciate the drop in distance of today’s race. The gelding will have to negotiate draw ten, but he is, nonetheless, taken to be the value bet on the day’s program.

PARTNERS had solid form before being disappointing last time out, finishing fourteenth over 1350M, nine lengths adrift of the winner, but the vet did report that he was fatigued after that race. He was immediately rested for 20 weeks and returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and winning the latest. From his kinder draw three, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

DUBAI TYCOON has posted two solid efforts since returning from a 10-week rest, winning the latest over 1120M by a neck. He jumps from a wideish gate eight but seems likely to put in another honest performance today.

Race 9

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative first pick goes to READY TO HUMBLE who followed up his penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over 1550M, 2.2L behind the winner. He had to be held up at the top of the home stretch that day but finished off his race strongly. He gets draw two and has his first run for his new trainer. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here.

FROM THE BUSH missed out on his hat-trick when finishing second last time out over a mile, 1.3L adrift of the victor. He looked a possible winner close to home that day and from gate six, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

WILD ROCKET is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she has won two of her last three starts, the latest over a mile by 1.3L She raced in a handy position into the home straight before drawing away from the field shortly thereafter. She is sure to make good use of her draw four and should give the males a good run for their money.

Race 10

Two 4yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s best bet, WATER DOVE is taken to lead the pack home. She boasts an impressive record of five runs for two wins and three second-place finishes in a row, the latest over five furlongs, 1.3L behind the winner, despite over racing in the early stages. However, the form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She has her first run since a 24-week break and has not had the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust, but from gate seven, she may prove to be difficult to topple here.

VERY SHARP has cracked pole position and is seldom far off the action, finishing third in her latest outing over 1100M, just over one length off the winner. She was making good late progress in that race and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

FOXSTORM finished second last time out over five furlongs, just a half-length back from the winner when returning from a 26-week absence. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and from draw five he will be looking to make amends today.
