Race 5.

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s best bet, MIGHTYBEEL to chalk up his second career victory. He is seldom far off the winner and jumped awkwardly before finishing fourth last time out over a mile, just under two and a half lengths back from the victor when returning from a 21-week break. He finished well that day suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking and from his handy draw four, he may prove to be difficult to topple.

KUZCO LAD has consistent form lines to his name and tried to go from jump to wire before ending up in fourth place last time out over 1900M, 1.8L back from the winner. He was only reeled in very late that day and the form of that race has been franked. He jumps from gate two and could prove to be the biggest threat to the top choice.

NARRATED is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she won her penultimate run over nine furlongs by 2.3L and then finished third over the same trip next time out, just over one length behind the winner. She faces a wideish draw eight, but she likes to race up with the speed, so is likely to use that early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 6.

FUMIKO has only had the three runs to date, but has won two of them, the latest over 1100M by 0.8L when returning from a 14 week rest. She jumped awkward that day and her jockey put up 1kg overweight, so that victory was full of merit. She gets a cozy draw three and could add win number three to her resume.

LADY OF LUXURY followed up her penultimate run victory over 1100M with a third place finish next time out over the same c&d, just over two lengths back from the winner. She was bumped at the jump and then had to be held up between the 200M and 100M mark, before finishing her race off powerfully. She gets draw five and should turn in another honest performance today.

JUAN DIVA had nothing go her way when putting in a disappointing effort in her penultimate start, having been bumped at the start and then crowded at the 200M pole, so that effort is best ignored. She was immediately rested for 23 weeks and then bounced back to form on her return by finishing second over 1100M, just a neck behind the winner. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate nine, but she should nevertheless be included in all bets.

Race 7.

As with the first leg of the Jackpot, a late scratching may come to the aid of today’s value bet, JERLE. He has solid formlines to his name and although recorded as finishing fifth last time out over five furlongs, he was making good late progress to finish just one and a half lengths adrift of the winner. He was returning from a 52 week break that day and the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them.

The form of that last race has been franked and from gate six, he should be right up there when they hit the line. WASHINGTON TOWERS missed out on his hat-trick in his penultimate start and then ended up in second spot next time out over five furlongs, just a half length back from the winner. He is drawn one outside the top pick and has his peak run since returning from a 24 week absence.

OCEAN EMPEROR jumped awkwardly when finishing fifth in his latest outing over 1100M, just over four and a half lengths behind the victor. He was returning from a 16 week rest that day and from gate five, he should not be lightly dismissed in this line-up.

Race 8.

APRIL RAIN is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her credit, finishing fifth in her last outing over 1300M, 1.2L behind the winner. She did not get the clearest of passages in the home stretch that day, but the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She returns from an 18 week break, but did finish third in her only barrier trial to showcase her well-being. She has cracked pole position and could give jockey James McDonald the honor of riding all four legs of the Jackpot.

QUANTICO showed solid improvement when finishing fourth in his latest run over six furlongs, 1.2L back from the winner, this despite coming the widest into the home straight. He was returning from a 38 week break that day, but finished off his race well and jumping from one gate outside the top pick, he could be his biggest threat.

DANCING GIDGET is the stable companion of the top selection and is also a 5yr old mare. She is often involved in the mix and battled all the way down to the wire when finishing the fifth last time out over 1500M, just under two lengths off the winner. She returns from a lengthy 47-week absence, but she did win both of her barrier trials to prove her fitness. She has a handy draw four and gets the services of ex-SA jockey Glynn Schofield, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
