Race 7

KIRWAN’S LANE has consistent formlines to his name and although recorded as finishing seventh last time out over a mile, he was just 1.8L behind the winner. He was making good late progress that day and from his handy draw four, he should turn in another honest performance.

He could well be chased home by the stable companions from the powerful Chris Waller yard, with the slight preference going to TRUE DETECTIVE. He has recorded one second and two third-place finishes in his last three starts, chasing home the winner in the latest outing to end up in second place over seven furlongs, 3.3L back from the victor.

By coincidence, his stablemate, ORDER AGAIN has the same record in his last three runs but did finish third behind the latter in the race mentioned above, 4.6L behind the winner. The pair are drawn in gates seven and eight respectively, but as they meet on exactly the same weight terms today, that last result looks likely to be confirmed.

Race 8

FANTASTIC BABY has won two out of his last three runs, the latest victory over a mile by a neck. He hit the front at the 200m mark that day and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the line. He does face a wide draw sixteen, but he has his peak run here after returning from a 24-week break and with a bit of luck in running, he could be the one to side with today.

ASHIM raced up with the pace before ending up in second place last time out over 1300M, 3.3L back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. The colt has a far kinder draw three and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

ARCTIC THUNDER is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she came from some way back when finishing in sixth place last time out over six furlongs, just over five lengths back from the victor. She jumps from gate six and should give the males a good run for their money.

Race 9

TYCOONIST has finished third, second and then a winner in his last three outings, the latest a head victory over 1300M. He jumped awkwardly that day but recovered quickly to take up the running and then fought off the chasing pack over the latter stages. He will have to negotiate the widest draw of them all in gate thirteen, but he is likely to attempt similar tactics today and is taken to be the best bet on the program.

RUSTIC STEEL has won two of his last three runs, the latest over 1100M by a head when returning from a 12-week rest. He is drawn one inside the top pick and should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

SMART IMAGE has shown steady improvement in his last three outings, finishing a head second last time out over six furlongs and has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial. The form of that last contest has worked out well with two runners out of the race-winning. He has a far kinder draw five and gets the services of ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 10

The day’s value bet, VENTURA OCEAN goes for his hat-trick after wins over six furlongs and the latest over seven furlongs by a neck, despite hanging in over the latter stages of the race. He returns from an 18-week break but has had the benefit of two barrier trials, finishing second in the latest. He has a wideish draw eight, but the trio of wins is very much on the cards.

FROSTY ROCKS returns from a longer 25-week break but has posted two wins and a second-place finish in his three barrier trials. He tried to go from gun to tape before ending up in third place over 1500M, just over a length adrift of the victor in his outing before the rest. From his handy draw two, he should be right up there in the firing line.

BIGBOYROY has his first run since an even longer 30-week absence, but he has had the two barrier trials winning the latest to prove his fitness. His record before the break reads, first, third and the latest a winner by a head over the mile journey where he got up in the shadow of the post. The form of that race has also been franked and from gate seven, he should be considered a big runner in this line-up.
