Race 4

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top choice goes to HEMSWORTH who has only had the three runs to date, finishing third on debut over six furlongs and then winning his last start by nearly two and a half lengths when stepping up to 1500M. He kicked clear at the 200M mark that day and the form of that race has been franked. He should continue to improve and could be good enough to record a quick double, given his handy draw four.

ONEMORECHOICE has shown steady improvement in his last three outings culminating with a victory last time out over this c&d, albeit by just a short-head. He faces a wide gate sixteen, but he should be doing his best work late.

OLLIVANDER on the other hand has cracked pole position. The gelding came three-wide into the home straight before ending up in second place last time out over a mile, two and a half lengths behind the winner. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and he will be looking to make amends here.

Race 5

The day’s best bet, VISCERAL followed up his maiden win in his penultimate start over seven furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over a mile, just a short-head behind the winner. He raced three wide before being carried out even wider approaching the home turn but stayed on well to claim victory. That effort was certainly one fully of merit and from his pole position, he could well prove difficult to topple in this line-up.

ZOUFLU is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she won her penultimate outing over six furlongs and then raced up with the pace next time out, finishing sixth over the same distance, three and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She has moved stable since that run and has her first start of the new yard. If fully settled into his new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself here, jumping from draw six.

APACHE RED is drawn one inside the latter and won his penultimate run over 1412M. He was then rested for 19 weeks and finished seventh over 1250M, eight lengths adrift of the winner on his return, but it should be noted that he was hampered on the turn that day and should have finished closer to the winner as a result. He should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

CASSY’S SISTER is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her name, having finished second twice and third twice in her last four outings, the latest being one of those second-place finishes, just a short-head behind the winner over 1100M. She is a speedy sort who will put her pole position to good use and as such, she is taken to be the value bet on the day’s program.

MY BENALLA goes for his hat-trick after wins over 1280M and the latest over five furlongs by 0.8L when returning from a lengthy 85-week absence. He was eased down approaching the line that day, so the winning margin could have been greater and from his cosy draw four, he could chalk up his double today.

EDIT showed plenty of toe before dead-heating for third spot last time out over 1500M, just under one and a half lengths back from the winner. He returns from a 39-week rest but has had the benefit of three barrier trials, finishing third in the latest. He will have to overcome a wide gate eleven, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 7

Two 5yr old mares could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the marginal top pick goes to TANGO STEPZ who won her penultimate start over five furlongs and then, although sixth last time out over 800M, was just three lengths behind the winner. She found herself second last turning from home that day, but made good late progress to finish off her race well. She jumps from draw two and should turn in another solid performance today.

INVINCIBLE NINJA overraced in the early and middle stages before, understandably, having nothing more to offer in the latter stages to end up in ninth spot last time out over five furlongs, five and a half lengths adrift of the victor. That was however at a stronger centre and despite having a wideish gate nine, she is likely to put in a better performance in this line-up.

WITNESS COLLECTOR attracted betting support last time out and shifted out at the 50M mark before finishing second in his latest outing over 1100M, just a neck back from the winner. An objection against him for that movement in the latter stages was overruled and the result was left to stand. He faces a wide draw fourteen out of fifteen, but, nevertheless, he should be included in all bets.
