Race 5

WAR CAT had his consistency rewarded with a short-head victory last time out over seven furlongs. He finished well to win that day, suggesting that the step up in distance should not be an issue. He has a wideish draw eight, but nevertheless is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. CAMP RIFLE made solid improvement to win his last outing over a mile by a head, despite pulling hard in the early stages and coming three wide into the straight. He has cracked pole position and could emerge as the immediate danger to the top choice. GROUP THINK attracted plenty of betting support when beaten a head last time out over the mile journey. He was however bumped at the start and then overraced in the early stages of the race, so that effort was encouraging. From draw three, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

SCORCHED LAND finished strongly when making marked improvement to emerge victorious by nearly two lengths last time out over a mile and on that effort, he should have little difficulty handling the step up in distance to the nine furlongs of today’s race. The form of that race has stood up well and from pole position, he looks to be the one to side with here. CONTINUATION came three wide into the home straight before finishing up in fifth place last time out over nine furlongs, 4.3L back from the winner. He will have to negotiate draw nine, but on the plus side, he will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. He renews his rivalry with ARABOLINI who finished a head behind him in the race mentioned above, but as he meets him on 1kg better terms at today’s weights, he should be able to confirm that last result. The latter did come even wider into the straight in that last contest and is drawn one inside the former, so all in all, there should not be too much separating the pair when they hit the line.

Race 7

MAID MARILYN is seldom far off the action and finished third last time out over 1500M, just a head adrift of the winner. She was crowded at the 400M pole in that run and had her subsequent objection against the winner overruled in the boardroom. It should however be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She also attracted plenty of betting support that day and from pole position, she will be hoping to make amends here. FLYING PRETTY is drawn one outside the top pick and has made solid improvement in her last two starts, firstly over 1100M and then winning the latest over 1300M by two and a half lengths. She took the lead as the field entered the home straight that day and then battled all the way down to the wire. UNEARTHED continue the draw trend and will jump from one gate outside the latter. She made good late progress to end up in second place last time out over six furlongs, only denied victory by a short-head. She will have 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice to aid her cause and should be included in all bets.

Race 8

SPIRITUAL POWER has finished closer to the winner in his last three starts, the latest when second over this trip, just a length back from the winner. He has his peak run here after returning from a lengthy 42 week absence and if he can continue down that same path, he could prove difficult to topple in this line-up. He faces a wide draw twelve, but he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages of the race and then start picking off the frontrunners in the dash down to the winning post. APACHE DUDE has consistent formlines to his name and although recorded as finishing fourth last time out over 1300M, he was just over a length and a half off the winner. He stayed on well that day and despite having to overcome gate ten, he should turn in another honest performance today. ROYAL CHARGE showed good improvement to win his latest outing over seven furlongs by half a length, this despite being friendless in the betting markets. If he is able to reproduce that effort over the shorter six furlongs of today’s contest, he should be considered a big runner here. His draw six should not be an issue.
