Race 4.

CHEVCONI just missed out on his hat-trick when finishing third last time out over 1180M, 3.7L behind the winner. It should however be noted that he was held up in traffic before entering the home straight, so should have finished closer to the winner as a result. From gate five, he will be looking to bounce back to winning ways today. TELLS TAILS is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she hit the front at the 200M mark and then strode away from the field to record an almost two length victory last time out over five furlongs. She is drawn one inside the top choice and should keep him honest. INTO THE FIRE has posted two solid last efforts, the latest when second over five furlongs, 0.7L behind the winner. He struck the front at the 300M pole that day and was only run out of it very late. The gelding gets draw six and should be included in all bets.

Race 5.

A 3yr old filly and a 5yr old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but IN SPADES is taken to lead the pack home. She followed up her penultimate run victory over 900M with a third-place finish next time out over the same sprint distance, just over three and a half lengths back from the winner when returning from a twenty-week rest. She was slow away and found herself at the back of the field in that race and then only saw daylight at the 200M mark, but then finished off her race well. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate sixteen, but she should be doing her best work late. ANGIE EMM has not fared too well with her draw either, getting just one gate inside the top choice. She finished second in her latest outing over five furlongs, just over a half-length behind the victor and was immediately rested for 38 weeks. She returns here after winning her only barrier trial and is a speedy sort who should use that early gate speed to shift across without expending too much energy. VITAL VERSE continues the trend of poor draws, have pulled one gate inside the latter, but he is another one who shows good toe in his races, so will also be hoping to move across as quickly as he can. He finished sixth in his last start over six furlongs, just under two and a half lengths adrift of the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He has his first run for his new trainer. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here.

Race 6.

OUR COUSIN AL had his consistency rewarded with a 0.8L win last time out over 1450M, notwithstanding being slow away, over racing in the early stages, being eased four-wide approaching the home turn and then finally being accidentally stuck on the head by a whip at the 100M mark. The gelding has drawn wide in gate eleven, but this probably won’t stop him from recording his third career victory and he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. A 4yr old filly and a 5yr old mare could chase him home, with the slight preference going to TOO SPICY who finished well to win her latest outing over seven furlongs by nearly two and a half lengths. She is seldom far off the action and is likely to turn in another honest performance today. LA TIGRESA was a tad disappointing when fourth last time out over seven furlongs, 11.3L adrift of the winner, but that was in very heavy going and she was slow away in that event. She has her peak run after returning from a lengthy 49-week break and will be hoping to bounce back to some of her better form today.

Race 7.

The day’s value bet, POLISHED PENNY is a 6yr old mare taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her credit, having finished third and second prior to her winning her last start over a mile by 0.7L. She turned for home in last position that day, before mowing down the opposition to win going away. She faces a wide gate twelve, but given her style of racing, she is likely to be dropped out of it early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the closing stages. THE SCOTSMAN put his disappointing effort two runs back firmly behind him when winning by two and a half lengths last time out over seven furlongs. He has his peak run here after returning from a 14-week rest and despite draw ten, he should be right up there in the mix. NOTHING’S SACRED was bumped down at the start, but recovered well to end up in eighth spot last time out over a mile, but just 3.8L back from the winner. He made good late progress that day and from a far kinder gate three, he should enjoy the step up in distance.
