Race 5.

There are six unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, BARTOSELLI may prove to be the best. He has only had the three runs to date, but showed good improvement to finish second last time out over today’s trip, 1.3L behind the winner when returning from a 25-week break. He came four-wide into the home straight that day but still made good late progress over the closing stages. From draw five, he could be the one to side with here. SACRED FIELD has also only had the three runs, but put his disappointing penultimate effort firmly behind him when finishing second is this last start over five furlongs, just a head behind the winner when returning from a shorter 19-week rest. He is a speedy sort who tried to go from jump to wire before being nabbed in the shadow of the post. He gets a wideish gate eight, but he should be right up there when they hit the line. PROVERBIAL is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys and is drawn one inside the latter. She is seldom far off the action and went off friendless in the betting markets when nevertheless finishing second last time out over 1100M, 0.8L back from the victor. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of the event subsequently winning and she should give the males a good run for their money.

Race 6.

The day’s best bet, PASSISTAS has had five outings, recording three wins, one-second place and one-third place finish, the latest that second over 1100M, one length adrift of the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She raced just behind the leaders that day and then finished her race off well, suggesting that she should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. She jumps from a wideish gate eight, but on the plus side, she will get 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today. SWEET RUBY was bumped shortly after the start, but then battled all the way down to the wire when ending up in second spot last time out over six furlongs, 1.3L off the winner. She jumps from gate six and will have her peak run after returning from a 22-week absence. She appears to be the immediate danger to the top choice. Although SHOTGUN ALLI is recorded as finishing in sixth place last time out over six furlongs, she was just three lengths behind the winner. She found herself at the back of the field turning for home that day and then did not get the clearest of passage in the dash down to the wire. From a handy draw four and with better luck in running, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 7.

KA BLING followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second spot finish next time out over the same distance, just a length behind the winner. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and did come four wide into the home stretch, before staying on well. From his cozy draw three, he is taken to be the value bet on the day’s program. FRENCH MARINE has won two of his last three runs, the latest over six furlongs by a head. He was well back turning for home that day, but finished strongly to hit the front at the 100M mark and then hold off all the late challengers. He has a handy draw four and will also have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice to aid his cause. MAJOR MURPHY finished his race off well when showing marked improvement to end up in second place in his latest outing over 1100M, 0.8L back from the winner. He faces a wide draw fourteen out of sixteen, but he should be doing his best work late.

Race 8.

With the late scratching of one of her main rivals, the door may have opened for FLORA to chalk up her fifth career victory. She is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she completed her hat-trick last time out over this five-furlong sprint, winning by just under a half length. She has in fact, won four of her last five outings and has pulled draw five. She will be having her first run for her new trainer and if fully settled into her new surroundings, she should give another good account of herself here. TORO TORO is drawn one outside the top pick and showed good early toe before being run out of it late when finishing fourth last time out over 1100M, 2.3L behind the winner. On that effort, the drop in trip seems certain to be to his liking. EMILETTE is a 5yr old mare who has cracked pole position and who showed solid improvement when third last time out over five furlongs, just over three and a half lengths behind the winner. She hung in from the entrance to the home straight and then had to be steadied off the heels of other runners at the 200M pole, so did well to get as close to the winner as she did. She gets 2kgs taken off her back for the services of her claiming apprentice and should be included in all bets.
