Race 7

There are three unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. To complicate the matter further, most of the other runners making up the field have only had one run, but SEJARDAN may prove to be the best by virtue of the fact that he was the only one to win on debut. He jumped awkwardly and was hampered at the 350M mark before finishing strongly to win that race over five furlongs by just over a length. He would have come on with that run under his belt and whilst having to deal with the widest draw of them all in gate twelve, he should be doing his best work late.

NOBEL is slightly better drawn in gate eight and also jumped awkwardly when making his debut over five furlongs, finishing three lengths behind the winner. He made good late progress that day and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

SHALATIN is another who jumped awkwardly first time out when a staying on fifth over five furlongs, 1.7L back from the victor. He also raced green from the 600M and then shifted out sharply at the 200M pole, so that effort was encouraging. He gets gate five and is sure to have come on after that outing and should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

ROCHA CLOCK was slow away and overraced in the middle stages before having to be steadied off the heels of other runners at the 800M mark. She then came four-wide into the home straight to finish second in her latest start over seven furlongs, 1.4L behind the winner. She is drawn in gate six and will be having her peak outing since returning from an 18-week break. as such, she is taken to be the value bet on the day’s program.

She renews her rivalry with TRICKY GAL who finished seventh in the race mentioned above, 2.9L back from the winner. The top choice is 1kg better off at today’s weights and seems likely to be able to confirm that last result. It should however be noted that the latter was slow away that day and had to be held up between the 400M and 150M marks. She jumps from draw three and will also be having her peak run since returning from a shorter 13-week rest.

YAMAZAKI is drawn one outside the latter and has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three runs, the latest when second over seven furlongs, just under half a length behind the winner, despite coming four wide into the home stretch. She stayed on well in that contest and will have her peak outing since returning from a 15-week absence.

Race 9

BLAZE A TRAIL had solid form before being reported to have cardiac arrhythmia when finishing last in his latest outing over ten furlongs, 22.3L adrift of the winner and was immediately rested for 25 weeks. He has subsequently moved yards and returns here after winning his two mandatory barrier trials. He has pulled a handy draw two and given the fact that his connections have engaged a top jockey for his comeback run, he may prove to be too good for this field.

FLAT HEAVEN was friendless in the betting markets and had nothing go his way when finishing second last time out over 1100M, just a head behind the winner. He was hampered at the jump, overraced in the middle stages and then came four-wide into the home straight before hitting the front at the 250m mark, only to be collared in the shadow of the post. The gelding jumps from gate six and will have 3kgs taken off his back courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

He bumps FOX FIGHTER again who finished 0.7L third in the race mentioned above, but the latter is 4.5kgs worse off at today’s weights and is drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, so he should struggle to reverse that last result. Having said that, it should be noted that he had to be held up at the 150M mark in that race and only obtained a clear run at the 100M pole before finishing off his race powerfully. He is trained by ex-SA jockey/trainer David Payne and should be included in all bets.

Race 10

BLESK was bumped at the 600M pole and only secured a clear run at the 250M mark, but dived through the gap as it opened to win a good race last time out over 1300m by half a length and the form of that race has been franked. He faces a wideish draw eight, but based on that last performance, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

ZOUSHACK followed up his penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a second spot finish last time out over 1300m, just a neck back from the winner. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and stayed on well over the latter stages. He jumps from gate six and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice to aid his cause.

SUAVE also won his penultimate start over seven furlongs and then finished second over the same trip next time out, 1.2L off the winner after making good late progress. Despite a widish draw nine, he makes plenty of appeal.
