Race 5.

This looks to be a tricky race to start the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top choice goes to LADY KERMADEC who is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys and who was a tad disappointing when ninth last time out over nine furlongs, just under seven lengths adrift of the winner, but she jumped awkwardly that day and only got going late in the home straight. The form of that race has however been franked. She gets a wideish draw seven, but she will be hoping to bounce back to the form that saw her winning four and three runs back. ELOPE TO VEGAS had his consistency rewarded with a two and a half length victory last time out over this distance. He faces a wide gate eleven, but on the plus side will get 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and should turn in another honest performance today. EFFORT stayed on well when finishing sixth last time out over 1500M, just over two and a half lengths back from the winner. That was at a stronger center and from his hand draw two, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

Race 6.

There are four unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners BLUSHING MARY may prove to be the best. She finished sixth on debut over five furlongs, just under three and a half lengths behind the winner, but she would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, she should be right up there in the mix, despite facing a wide draw eleven. PERFECT SUN showed plenty of toe before ending up in nineth place in her latest outing over six furlongs, just under three lengths adrift of the victor when returning from a 27 week break and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. From her cozy draw two, she could emerge as the biggest threat to the top choice. DONENOTHING was returning from a shorter 19 week absence when showing marked improvement to finish third last time out over five furlongs, 0.7L behind the winner. She jumps from gate four and should be included in all bets.

Race 7.

As with the first leg of today’s Jackpot, there are a number of unraced runners in this contest, so the same comment in respect of keeping an eye on the betting moves applies here as well, but the day’s value bet, MANCCONI looks to be the best of the raced runners. He was making good late progress when finishing fourth last time out over five furlongs 5.2L behind the winner when returning from a 14 week break. He has pulled draw three and will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice to aid his cause. PRINCE NICCONI was slow away when ending up in nineth spot last time out over five furlongs, just over seven and a half lengths back from the winner when returning from a longer 18 week absence and the form of that contest has been franked. He faces a wide draw thirteen, but he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the closing stages. CRANBERRY KING on the other hand has cracked pole position and showed plenty of speed when finishing fourth on debut over five furlongs, two and a half lengths behind the winner. He would have come on with the run under his belt and will have a 2kgs claiming apprentice in the irons.

Race 8.

GALACTIC WARRIOR won by 2.8L when making his debut over six furlongs and was immediately rested for 53 week. He then finished eighth over 1010M on his return, 2.8L behind the winner. He will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them. The gelding is sure to put his pole position to good use and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. LADY TABLOID is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she raced up with the pace and then stayed on well to finish third last time out over six furlongs, 0.7L back from the victor when returning from a 21 week absence. She gets gate seven and could be the biggest threat to the top pick. ALAN is seldom far off the action and battled all the way down to the wire when second last time out over 1412M, 2.8L behind the winner. He gets a kinder draw three as well as a 1.5kg apprentice allowance and should be involved in the finish.
