Race 4.

There are four unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners BIG SHORT may prove to be the best. He is one of six runners in the race from the powerful Chris Waller stable and has finished third in his first two starts, the latest over a mile, 1.7L behind the winner and the form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He does returns from a 16 week rest, but did turn in an encouraging barrier trial to prove his fitness. He will have to negotiate a wide gate eleven, but nevertheless, he should be right up there when they hit the line. His stable companion, CELTIC HARP could be his biggest danger. He jumped awkwardly and found himself at the back of the field and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 200M mark, before finishing his race off well. He jumps from draw nine and with better luck in running today, he could complete the exacta for the yard. STAR OF ADELAIDE finished fifth on debut over six furlongs, two lengths back from the winner, but he was making good late progress that day suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. He faces a wide gate thirteen, but he should be doing his best work late.

Race 5.

With the late scratchings of two of his main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s value bet, CAPRI LANE to chalk up his sixth career victory. He has won two of his last three runs, the latest over six furlongs by a head when returning from a 17 week break. He gets gate seven and has his first run for his new trainer, but he did win his only barrier trial, when seems to suggest that he has settled well into his new surroundings and as such, he should give a good account of himself here. BYRON is drawn one inside the top choice and followed up his penultimate run victory over a mile with a fourth place finish next time out over 1300M, eight lengths adrift of the winner when returning from a longer 30 week absence, but the form of that race has been franked and he did hang in all the way down the home straight. LADY RIVER is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys and finished eleventh last time out over 1100M, just under five lengths behind the winner. She stayed on well that day and from her handy draw three, she should give the males a good run for their money.

Race 6.

MIHOCEK has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, culminating with a half length victory last time out over 1300M, despite overracing in the early and middle stages. He hit the front at the 150M pole that day and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the line. The gelding faces a wideish draw nine, but could prove good enough to complete his double. MYDEEL is drawn one inside the top pick and goes for his hat-trick after victories over 1500M and the latest over six furlongs, albeit by just a short-head. He was returning from a 20 week rest that day, but finished off his race strongly and the trio of wins is very much on the cards. TOOMAI is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she had to be eased off the heels of other runners at the 250M mark before staying on well to win her latest outing over 1500M by a head. She gets a kinder gate three and will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice to aid her cause.

Race 7.

The day’s best bet, TYCOON HALLIE is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name and was slow away, but found a powerful finish when ending up in second place last time out over 1300M, just a half length behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She attracted plenty of betting support that day and whilst draw wide in gate ten out of eleven, she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the frontrunners over the closing stages of the race. CARLISLE BAY won his penultimate run over 1300M and then finished sixth next time out over 1500M, 2.8L back from the winner, but he was hampered shortly after the start that day and then came four wide into the home stretch before staying on well. From gate six, he could emerge as the biggest threat to the former. LENNON disappointed in his penultimate start over seven furlongs, but then made good late progress to end up in sixth place last time out over six furlongs, just under three lengths off the winner. He will have to overcome gate nine, but on the plus side, he will have 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.
