Race 4

Today’s best bet, COOK IT CHARLIE is seldom far off the action and was forced wide before finishing third last time out over 1100M, just over a half length behind the winner. He nevertheless finished strongly that day and from his handy draw four, he may prove difficult to topple here. The battle for second and third place could be fought out between ex-SA champion jockey Jeff Lloyd’s two sons, brothers Jaden and Zac. L’AMANTE is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she has improved in her last three starts culminating with a half length victory last time out over 1100M, despite having to be steadied at the 600M mark. She is drawn in gate seven, but will have 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice. EL PRADOS goes for his hat-trick after winning his last start over six furlongs by a short-head. He drops in trip, but he did win his penultimate outing over this distance, so this should not be an issue. The form of her last two wins has been franked and although drawn the widest of them all in gate nine, on the plus side he will get 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race and some caution is suggested. The tentative first choice goes to CANNY CAT who has only had the two runs to date, but he showed the expected improvement when finishing fourth over 1100M second time out, just under two lengths back from the winner. He will have to negotiate gate eight, but if he has continued down that same path of improvement, he could be the one to side with in this line-up. The next three spots could be filled by a 5yr old mare and two 4yr old fillies. SUZY NEEDS LOVIN‘ has finished fourth in her last two starts and made good late progress to end up 3.7L behind the winner in her latest outing over 1300M. She faces a wide draw twelve, but on that last effort, she should be doing her best work over the closing stages of the race. BLUE CORNER has finished closer to the winner in her last three starts, the latest when a staying on third over six furlongs, just over three and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She has a kinder draw six and will also have 3kgs taken off her back for the services of her claiming appie to aid her cause. CHAMPAGNE SALLY has cracked pole position and could be looking for this extra distance after finishing sixth last time out over 1100M, 3.6L behind the winner. she should be included in all bets.

Race 6

TONY’S DECREE battled all the way down to the wire before finishing second last time out over 1300M, just over three and a half lengths back from the winner and on that performance seems likely to enjoy the slight step up in distance. He faces a wideish draw nine, but on the positive side, he will get 3kgs removed from his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. ZOUVILLA finished fourth in his last outing over six furlongs, slightly over four lengths adrift of the winner when returning from a 20 week break. He steps up in trip and will jump from gate six, but he should have come on further with that run under his belt and should be right up there in the mix. RUBY RUSH is a 6yr old mare taking on males. She stayed on nicely when ending up in sixth spot last time out over six furlongs, just over three lengths behind the winner. She has pulled the widest draw of the lot, but on the plus side of the equation, she will have 3kgs removed from her weight thanks to her claiming apprentice.

Race 7

With the four late scratchings in the race, the field has been reduced to just the nine runners and two 4yr old fillies and a 6yr old mare could fight out the finish to the race and complete the trifecta, but today’s value bet, MISS LUCINDA is taken to lead them home. She won her last start over five furlongs by 1.3L and the form of that race has stood up well. She now jumps from gate three and will have 3kgs removed from her weight for the services of her claiming apprentice to boost her winning chances. ASK AUDREY was friendless in the betting markets when she won her last outing over five furlongs by one and a half lengths. She was returning from a lengthy 50 week absence that day, but the rest clearly did the trick. She now has a far kinder draw seven and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick. ROOTS’N’ROCKS had her consistency rewarded with a two length win last time out over five furlongs. She hit the front at the top of the straight and then held off all challengers over the latter stages of the contest. Her draw nine is a slight concern, but she is likely to race up with the leaders and attempt to outrun them in the sprint down to the wire.
