Race 5

ROMAN CANDLE had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory by two and a half lengths last time out over seven furlongs. He went from jump to wire that day and the form of that race has been franked. He will have to negotiate gate ten, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. Two 4yr old fillies could chase him home, with the slight preference going to SURF who also won her maiden race last time out, but in her case, over 1500M by a head. She hit the front at the 75M mark and then held off all the late challengers over the closing stages of the contest. She is drawn in gate eight and should be right up there when they hit the line. DREAM SONG is seldom far off the actions and was making good late progress when ending up in third place last time out over 1300M, one and a half lengths behind the winner. She will have to deal with a wide gate fifteen, but she has her peak run here after returning from a 20 week rest and should not be easily overlooked in this line-up.

Race 6

KENSINGTON KID made every post a winning post when victorious by just under a length last time out over six furlongs. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and from a hand draw four, he is likely to adopt similar tactics today. MAGIC ON ICE followed up his penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a fourth-place finish next time out over the same trip, 3.7L back from the winner. He did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight and did well to finish as close as he did to the winner. He jumps from gate six and with better luck in running today, he could threaten the top choice. MATHEMATICS also won his penultimate start, but in his case over this c&d and then finished fifth in his next outing over the five-furlong sprint, just over two and a half lengths adrift of the winner. He was returning from a 19 week break and did jump awkwardly that day. He will have to overcome a wide gate sixteen out of seventeen, but he likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start picking off the front runner over the latter stages.

Race 7

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the way may have been cleared for RICH AND SHAMELESS to chalk up his fourth career victory and he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. He has finished close up in his last three runs over a variety of different distances, the latest when second over 1300M, beaten just a short-head. He showed plenty of determination that day before only just failing to end up in the winner’s box. He is now drawn in gate eight and could prove difficult to topple here. ELLEBEEDEE is a 6yr old mare taking on the boys, but she won by one and a half lengths last time out when going the mile journey, this despite racing three-wide. She faces a wide gate fourteen but nevertheless looks to be the immediate danger to the top pick. FENERBACHE won his penultimate start over this distance and then overraced before finishing eighth in his last outing over 1700M, six and a half lengths off the winner. He was however reported to be lame after that race, so that effort is best ignored. If bouncing back to his better form and from draw two, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

MOCK SONG has improved in her last three runs, culminating with a half-length victory last time out over five furlongs when setting the pace. She has gate two and may prove to be difficult to chase down over the latter stages of this contest. As such, she is made the value bet on the program. STELLAR BLAZE finished third in her last outing over this c&d, just a head behind the winner, this despite jumping awkwardly and ducking out sharply at the 900M pole. She attracted plenty of betting support that day and stayed on well in the closing stages. She is drawn the widest of them all, but is likely to be doing her best work late to keep the top selection honest. VINAIGRETTE also jumped awkwardly in her last start over six furlongs, ending up in fifth pace, just over three lengths back from the winner. She was making good late progress that day and the form of that race has been franked. She has pulled gate six and should be included in all bets.
