Race 6: GULL ROCK(2)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: REBEL’S BURST(8)

Jockey: Corne ORFFER – Trainer: Riaan VAN REENEN

The raced runners could make their experience count, despite trying this testing circuit for the first time in their careers. REBEL’S BURST is a fast daughter of Rebel King who finished a creditable 2nd on debut over 800m at Kenilworth on the second day of January and that outing would have brought her on considerably. She would have strengthened during her eight-week absence and though she faces a stiff task from the widest draw today, the chestnut filly should have plenty more to offer and can defy the odds. She gets the services of an in-form jockey.

TOP BET

Race 2: MR WISE GUY(4)

Jockey: Donovan DILLON – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

The sole three-year-old in this six-horse handicap MR WISE GUY is progressing smartly and has an excellent chance of reeling off a hat-trick of wins. The son of Visionaire has been ultra-consistent and he finished best of all to record an impressive mile victory on Met Day. He attempts ten furlongs for the first time in his career but the likely sedate gallop should suit him perfectly and he should make the step-up in class.

Race 5: DOCTOROW(1)

Jockey: Grant BEHR – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

The Bora Bora c & d formline on 03/02 could dominate proceedings in this maiden contest and DOCTOROW should set the record straight. The Dean Kannemeyer inmate has shown useful form but he wasn’t given the best ride when finishing 4th in the event referred to above, three weeks ago. That was his first try in blinkers and quite frankly, the son of Trippi should have finished ahead of the 3rd placed runner, ROCK ON GEORDIES. He meets the latter on identical weight terms today but has his peak outing and can reverse the form.

Race 6: GULL ROCK(2)

Jockey: Corne ORFFER – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

The Brett Crawford yard holds a strong hand in this low-key handicap and the stable elect, GULL ROCK gets the nod. The four-year-old gelding has benefitted greatly from the 21-week break and won 2 of his last 4 starts. He seems best up to ten furlongs and produced a strong finish to share first position with the game Tiger Tops over this c & d, three weeks ago. The bay gelding was handed a three-pound penalty but he clearly has more to offer at this level and has strong claims of following up.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 8: SEA SPRAY(11)
Jockey: Lucian AFRICA – Trainer: Greg ENNION

This is a very competitive low-key handicap and with a likely cracking gallop, the finish could be thrilling. SEA SPRAY was given a very good ride when she beat LOVAR (2kgs better off) going away over seven furlongs at Kenilworth two weeks ago. That win earned her a four-pound penalty but she is c & d suited and will love the fast pace. Moreover, she is well drawn and could be ready to pounce in the home straight.
