Winning Form Best Bets
Race 1: MUSKETS ‘N ROSES(1)
Race 2: MIDNIGHT MASTER(1)
Race 3: I’M A ROCK STAR(1)
Race 4: VICE ADMIRAL(5)
Race 2: RIO BRANCO(4)
Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN
RIO BRANCO has shown ability and he made good improvement on his comeback run, ten days ago. The son of Var showed plenty of speed but was caught very late over six furlongs on this course. He may have just needed the outing and will strip much fitter here. His task has been made very difficult by his poor draw but he has the necessary speed to overcome that and he will get every assistance from the saddle.
Race 4: CAPTAIN MAGPIE(11)
Jockey: Glen HATT – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD
CAPTAIN MAGPIE had a decent juvenile campaign but was gelded after a below-par last performance in the Grade 3 Langerman. He returns from a sixteen week break and should have lots of improvement to come. The son of Captain Al makes his handicap debut and should be competitive with a handy galloping mass.
Race 7: GOLDEN CRYSTAL(7) – TOP BET
Jockey: Grant V/NIEKERK – Trainer: Mike BASS
GOLDEN CRYSTAL represents a red-hot combination and the son of Goldkeeper bounced back to form in his last start. He may have still just needed the outing but was running on well at the finish when third, beaten just over a length and a half over 1700m at Kenilworth. He meets the runner-up COUNT MY LUCK on 1.5kgs better terms and has much more scope for improvement. He will be cherry-ripe on his third run after the layoff and can easily reverse the form. He is well drawn and has little issues with this trip. It is encouraging that his only career win has come on this track.
Race 9: KOWLOON BAY(2)
Some of the principle contenders are drawn badly here and that makes things interesting. KOWLOON BAY, though, is drawn well at barrier 3 and the son of Tobe Or Nottobe has consistent recent form. He stayed on for minor placings in his last few starts over various distances and today’s trip suits him ideally. Admittedly, he has had his fair share of chances but he has been knocking on the door and today could be his day.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 5: PIKITUP(9) (Each Way)
Jockey: Christopher PULLER – Trainer: Paul REEVES
PIKITUP is better than her recent form suggests. She would have needed her comeback run and met with some traffic problems on her handicap debut, two weeks ago. Still, she stayed on for a close sixth, beaten just over three lengths and will be much fitter today. She drops class and should be very competitive from a handy draw.
