SCARLET WITCH enjoyed being fitted with blinkers and trying ten furlongs in her last start. She overcame a slightly slow start and ran on nicely for second, beaten just over one length behind Qubla over this trip at Kenilworth. She had the frontrunning FLY LIKE AN EAGLE a length and a half behind her that day and should easily hold that form. The concern is how she will handle this course but she is drawn in pole and gets the expert services of Andrew Fortune. It is worth noting that Fortune partnered the latter last time out but has now opted for the top rating. The latter has the experience of having raced on this course but has her work cut out for her to reverse the form. Still, she should complete the exacta.
Race 5: BEULAH(1)
Jockey: Stuart RANDOLPH – Trainer: Riaan VAN REENEN
BEULAH is often thereabouts and has a definite affinity for this course. She has been holding her form well and ran on nicely for fourth on her comeback run over a mile on this track, five weeks ago. The daughter of Badger’s Drift will strip much fitter and she enjoys racing over this extra distance. She is gutsy and has carried big masses well in the past.
Race 6: AZANIAH(6)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Shane HUMBY
AZANIAH bounced right back to form when she ran on nicely for second in yielding conditions over the minimum trip, five weeks ago, She switched at a crucial stage and may have finished even closer. That was the daughter of Windrush’s first attempt with blinkers and she will get that headgear on again. She is drawn handy and should enjoy this extra furlong.
Race 8: TRUE GIFT(5)
TRUE GIFT has shown consistent form throughout her career but was slightly disappointing, in that she failed to shed her maiden tag during the KZN winter. However, that was against stronger opposition. Her form shows that she stays a mile and the manner with which she races, suggests that this drop in trip will pose no real concerns. The daughter of Windrush is handily drawn at barrier 2 and should take some beating, if she handles this track.

Race 7: COUNT MY LUCK(10) (Each Way)
Jockey: Devin ASHBY – Trainer: Mike STEWART
COUNT MY LUCK never got into the contest when trying ten furlongs last time. However, he is much better over this shorter trip and he ran on nicely for a close fourth over this c & d in yielding conditions in his penultimate effort. He has achieved 3 of his 4 career wins on this course and could be very competitive from a handy draw. Also, he finished a neck behind the likely favourite COGNAC ON ICE in that penultimate run over this c & d and is 0.5kg better off at the weights. More importantly though, the latter has drawn badly at barrier 16 and will have his work cut out for him.
