Winning Form Best Bets

Race 1: RED VELVET LOUNGE(4)
Race 2: TIMEDTOPERFECTION(12)
Race 3: ANOTHER NIGHT(7)
Race 5: OH SO MODUS(1)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: TIMEDTOPERFECTION(12)
Jockey: Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Corne SPIES

The filly TIMEDTOPERFECTION has been thereabouts in her two recent runs on the polytrack but she seems to prefer racing on the grass and could be much more competitive today. The daughter of Judpot can narrow the 1.75 lengths deficit with MUSTANG BOY on their last meeting behind Story Of My Life. It is worth noting that her best local performance came over this c & d in open company whilst a juvenile last season and the runner-up Oklahoma Sky has won twice subsequently.

Race 3: LIMPOPO RIVER(1)
Jockey: Juan-paul VAN DER MERVE – Trainer: Gavin SMITH

LIMPOPO RIVER
probably found the ten furlongs too far for her in her disappointing last outing but she will appreciate this drop in distance. The former Cape resident went close to shedding her maiden tag in her two prior efforts in this province and she can get it right today. She has the early gate speed to overcome her awkward draw and meets an ordinary field.

Race 5: OH SO MODUS(1)

Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Renate DU PLESSIS

With just seven runners going to post for this Pinnacle Stayers Stakes over twelve furlongs, the pace or lack thereof, could be the deciding factor. The Tara Laing yard has a trio of entrants, of which one could dictate terms to suit their more fancied rival SILVER IMAGE who is attempting to reel off a hat-trick of wins. However, top jockey Muzi Yeni will be all too aware of this and his mount OH SO MODUS has both the credentials as well as the know-how to lead throughout this staying contest. The five-year-old bay gelding has a solid c & d record and despite his recent exploits from off the speed, he is extremely capable from the front as he showed when finishing runner-up in the Glenlair Trophy behind the talented local stayer Crown Of Gold over 3200m in early May. The top selection is best weighted and he could take some beating if allowed the run of the race.

TOP BET

Race 7: CLEAR SAILING(3)

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

The classy mare CLEAR SAILING built on her eye-catching local debut when she held off subsequent winner SCANDAL (0.5kg better off) to win a six-furlong feature on this track on the first day of last month. She may have escaped with only a two-pound penalty and undoubtedly prefers this minimum trip. The likely suicidal pace will play into her hands and she has strong claims of following up.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 8: FIRST OF MAY(8)
Jockey: Collen THABANA – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

This is a most interesting low-key fillies and mares handicap and despite a big field heading to post, there could be a lack of pace which may prove detrimental to the favourite. That said, the likely sedate gallop won’t damage the chances of the top selection FIRST OF MAY who could prove to be decent each/way value in this final event. The five-year-old bay mare has placed over this c & d and she has gradually come back to form with some fair recent efforts. She raced wide throughout her last seven-furlong start after being poorly drawn but only tired late to finish just over two lengths adrift of her conqueror. The daughter of Ashaawes continues to steadily drop in the merit ratings and she is now drawn well at gate 4.
