Race 5: DRILL SARGEANT(1)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: SHADES OF JADE(2)

Jockey: Heavelon V/D HOVEN – Trainer: George UREN

The Silver Dream formline on 26/01 on the polytrack is well-represented in this contest and the 2.5kgs apprentice claim that SHADES OF JADE receives could be significant. This daughter of Royal Air Force is a natural frontrunner who could easily dictate her own terms in this field. She produced her career-best outing when tiring late into a close 4th in the event referred to above and she has room for further progress.

TOP BET

Race 5: DRILL SARGEANT(1)

Jockey: Wayne AGRELLA – Trainer: Tara LANG

DRILL SARGEANT is by some distance best in on official ratings and he looks a very tough nut to crack. He caused a major upset when finally putting one over his quality staying stablemate Crown Of Gold over further at a similar level in late December. He had the well-travelled OH SO MODUS just a neck behind him that day but meets the runner-up on 2kgs better terms and the latter has just returned from a journey to the Cape so could need a few runs to adjust.

Race 6: AREZZO(1)

Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO  – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

AREZZO has campaigned in strong fields in the ‘Mother City’ and he returns to this track. At first glance, his stats show that he failed in his only try on this course but that was in the Derby in his post maiden run, despite the chestnut colt casting a shoe. The Justin Snaith inmate still finished a creditable 4th behind the classy St Tropez and he has improved significantly during his career. He finished a good 3rd over ten furlongs at Kenilworth last time and the runner-up Tiger Tops boosted the form when dead-heating for 1st under a big mass, subsequently. This son of Go Deputy drops heavily in class and he is extremely well in on official ratings.

Race 8: NOTTING HILL(2)

Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

NOTTING HILL was rightly rested after some indifferent polytrack performances but the break would have done the son of Horse Chestnut the world of good and his conditioner has found the perfect race for him to make a winning comeback. The four-year-old gelding is versatile and holds a solid record on this track. He is extremely well treated at the weights on official ratings and should go close in this field.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 9: OREO(6)

Jockey: Kersley RAMSAMY – Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

This is yet another extremely competitive low-key handicap but the Door Of Deception c & d formline on 18/12 could be worth following. OREO is best over today’s distance and he stayed on for a solid 4th in that event referred to above. He was beaten just under two lengths that day and showed some improvement last time out, after two indifferent runs, subsequently. The son of Right Approach is much better treated on these handicap terms and the 4kgs apprentice allowance is a major plus. The chestnut gelding has cracked a midfield draw.
