PAX AFRICANA had too much to do on her local debut in feature company from a bad draw but she showed exactly what she is capable of, when finishing well for third over this c & d, three weeks ago. The former KZN inmate was only having her 4th career outing last time and has tons of scope for improveme- nt. Her stable has turned the corner in recent weeks and she should take some beating here. The slight worry is that the going may come up soft.
Race 4: TAIPAI TIGRESS(16)
Jockey: Brandon MORGENROOD – Trainer: Steven V/RENSBURG
TAIPAI TIGRESS drops heavily in class after contesting back-to-back features in both her career starts to date. She almost caused a major upset when she finished strongly and claimed second position on debut over seven furlongs in a feature but never raised a gallop in yielding conditions, next time out. The daughter of Tiger Dance drops to maiden company for the first time and should go extremely well here. She has a fair draw and will love the step-up to the mile.
Race 7: IN A RUSH(2) – TOP BET
Jockey: S’Manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Gavin SMITH
IN A RUSH was slightly disappointing in his last start but seems to be most effective over this trip. He won a good contest over this distance at Arlington in his penultimate outing, despite returning from a short break. The son of Windrush is undoubtedly best on this longer run-in and should go very close over this c & d. He jumps from a handy draw and gets the services of the in-form Khumalo.
Race 9: POUNCE(1)
POUNCE brings very good Cape form into this contest and is well in at the weights on official ratings. She finished close-up in fifth, beaten under one length in a blanket finish at Kenilworth over this trip, six days ago. The daughter of Right Approach has faced much stronger than today’s opposition and should prove very tough to beat here. She gets a 2.5kgs apprentice claim which further enhances her chances.

Race 6: SURFER BUZZ(14) (Each Way)
Jockey: Warren KENNEDY – Trainer: Jacques STRYDOM
SURFER BUZZ produces his best performances on this course but generally runs on late in his races. He finished close-up over 2400m in his penultimate outing and should go well in this field. The obvious worry is that he concedes ground at the start. Still, he will be running on at the finish and can pull this off.
