Magic Tips Best Bets

TOP BET
Race 1: WRITTEN IN GOLD(9)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The Cape visitor WRITTEN IN GOLD doesn’t have inspiring form but he is lightly raced and can stake a claim on his peak effort. The Snaith inmate did show some improvement, albeit well beaten into 4th when trying the mile in yielding conditions a fortnight ago. The imported gelding has cracked the best draw on his local debut and he clearly has more to offer.

Race 2: BATTERSEA BRIDGE(7)
Jockey: Craig BANTAM – Trainer: Jaques STRYDOM

BATTERSEA BRIDGE
has shown some decent potential and despite sweating up badly on the polytrack over six furlongs last Friday, the son of Sail From Seattle produced an eye-catching display. He tired very late on that occasion and this minimum distance should be ideal for the bay colt. He produced two fair performances on this track at the start of his short career and will now benefit from a 4kgs appie allowance. It could pay to follow the progress of Winter Streak who runs in the opening event as that rival finished half a length ahead of the top selection last time out.

Race 7: RAHVAR(2)
Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Renate du PLESSIS

RAHVAR
loves racing over the mile and he has acclimatised extremely well since relocating to this province. He produced two quality runs over today’s distance, particularly when staying on for 4th in a highly competitive pinnacle event over this c & d, three weeks ago. The son of Var is better treated on today’s handicap terms despite a big mass and he should take a power of beating from a good draw. The bay gelding gets the services of Muzi Yeni, fresh from riding a hat-trick of winners in the Northern Cape on Monday.

Race 8: HARVARD CRIMSON(5)

Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

As we have become accustomed to, the Justin Snaith yard holds an extremely strong hand in the day’s topliner. The riding engagements indicate that Richard Fourie’s mount HARVARD CRIMSON is preferred and the daughter of Dynasty has her peak effort on her local debut. She hasn’t won for some time but has been facing considerably stronger in the ‘Mother City’ and she is only slightly out at the weights. The bay filly is well drawn at gate 6 and she should go very well in this class.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 9: NOTTING HILL(4)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

NOTTING HILL
had an excuse for his last run but in all honesty, he probably took on too much on unfavourable weight terms at pinnacle level over this c & d. He will much prefer this handicap class and stayed on for 3rd after setting the pace, also against stronger in his penultimate run over nine furlongs. The Horse Chestnut gelding continues to drop in the merit ratings and he can stake a serious claim from his fair draw in this field.
