Race 4: SILKEN SUMMER(2)
Race 5: SIR DUKE(2)
Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 1: VIA SEATTLE(2)
Jockey: L HEWITSON – Trainer: Y BREMNER
VIA SEATTLE drifted alarmingly in the betting market but still produced an eye-catching winning debut over this c & d, six weeks ago. She quickened smartly after racing prominently and should have plenty more to offer.
Race 2: PRETTY WOMAN(5)
Jockey: L MXOTHWA – Trainer: G PADDOCK
PRETTY WOMAN benefitted from blinkers and a change of scenery when she got going late to finish a fair 4th on her local debut over a mile, two weeks ago. That effort clearly indicated that the former Cape resident will appreciate the step-up in distance and she can show more for her in-form yard. She will again be equipped with the headgear.
TOP BET
Race 3: MY WORD MY BOND(1)
Jockey: G LERENA – Trainer: J SNAITH
MY WORD MY BOND has produced some useful recent efforts, including a decent local debut over ten furlongs a fortnight ago. He was a neck adrift of the runner-up WARREN PLACE that day but certainly has more scope than the latter and could really enjoy the mile.
Race 8: COCK-A-HOOP(5)
Jockey: G LERENA – Trainer: J SNAITH
The day’s topliner is a seven furlong listed contest for three-year olds where just eight entrants face the starter. The Snaith trained chestnut colt COCK-A-HOOP beat a few of today’s rivals comfortab- ly in a feature over this distance on the polytrack, in his only local start. He faced stronger opposition in the ‘Mother City’ since but did improve at handicap level in open company recently and could have a major say on his local grass debut. The son of Western Winter usually races handy and has a smart turn of foot, so he will appreciate any gallop.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 7: CHRISALDAME(7)
Jockey: L HEWITSON – Trainer: Y BREMNER
The speedy CHRISALDAME got her career right back on track when she fought on gamely for a close 2nd over this c & d, three weeks ago. She was penalized four pounds for her exertions but was interesting- ly, 4.50 lengths clear of the next placed entrant GALADRIEL and is only 1kg worse off with that rival. The Dynasty mare still has plenty in her favour and she rates a huge threat in this big field.
