TOP BET
Race 2: ORIENTAL TIGER(1)
Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER
ORIENTAL TIGER is holding his form well since returning from a long absence but the Lecture gelding promised plenty more after an exciting juvenile campaign. Still, he is above today’s level of opposition and is ideally c & d suited. He is well treated by the weights and should give another solid account of himself.
Race 4: RAZED IN BLACK(2)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH
This is a competitive handicap and the heavyweights should be heavily involved in the finish. RAZED IN BLACK produced many outstanding performances last season and his record underlines his affinity for this surface. He finished strongly for a creditable 4th behind the polytrack champion Gogetthesheriff in a feature in his penultimate run and deserve14-week4 week break. This combination had an excellent day at this venue on Monday and this son of Kahal deserves huge respect from his decent draw.
Race 5: PIRANGI(3)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Alan GREFF
PIRANGI surprisingly failed to stay when she performed badly in a feature last time but her trainer has wasted little time in dropping her in distance and in class. The daughter of Ideal World is capable of much better and she should have won her penultimate start over seven furlongs on the grass. The switch to the polytrack could suit the bay filly and she can quickly make amends on her track debut. The Greeff inmate is drawn well at gate 5.
Race 8: BLACK JADE(7)
Jockey: Ryan MUNGER – Trainer: Dorrie SHAM
The outcome of this low-key fillies and mares handicap depends heavily on how BLACK JADE has taken her run on Monday. The five-year-old bay mare has gradually come to hand locally and she produced a smart effort when going close at novice level over five furlongs, four days ago. Of course, she didn’t incur a penalty after that performance which means that she is extremely well handicapped in this class. The daughter of Mogok is even better over this extra furlong and she should take a power of beating. Her main dangers are all drawn wider and that is a huge plus.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 7: AMADEUS ROCKS(5)
Jockey: Chase MAUJEAN – Trainer: Duncan MCKENZIE
AMADEUS ROCKS got back to form with a decent last grass effort behind CAPTAIN ON THE RUN and true to his c & d record, the top selection will be an entirely different proposition on this surface today. Of course, he suffered just one defeat from four c & d showings and the five-year-old bay gelding could represent decent each/way value in this competitive event.
