Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: PONT DU GARD(6)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

PONT DU GARD is holding form and he came from way back to finish 4th behind the speedy FIRE HORSE (ran on Friday 3 February) over the minimum trip on this track four weeks ago. The weights still favour his conqueror but the Greeff inmate looks set to relish the extra furlong and he will certainly thrive in a likely rapidly run affair. His c & d record is decent.

TOP BET
Race 5: COASTAL SPELL(2)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

COASTAL SPELL has developed into a polytrack specialist and she made a bright local debut when staying on for a close 3rd over 1300m four weeks ago. The former KZN resident has some smart form over the mile and she will strip fitter now. She was only a neck adrift of the consistent runner-up RED HOT LADY that day and is now 5kgs better off with that rival. Needless to say, she should reverse the form. The daughter of Toreador has drawn best of all.

Race 7: CANDY CRUSH(7)
Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

The three-year-old CANDY CRUSH bounced right back to form with a decent last feature display against her own age group over 1300m on this course. She weakened late into 3rd after racing handy from her wide draw but has a much better barrier position today and that should be significant.

Race 8: TROUBLE MAKER(2)

Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

There are some very speedy sorts who should ensure a cracking gallop in the day’s final event. That blistering speed will suit the top rating TROUBLE MAKER who has shown an affinity for this surface. The well-related gelding jumps from a good draw and could represent decent each/way value despite his big mass.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: CHESTNUT’S CHAMP(10)

Jockey: Eldin WEBBER – Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

This contest may also lack pace and CHESTNUT’S CHAMP could be the right one, if his jockey takes the lightly weighted bay gelding to the head of affairs. The son of Horse Chestnut stayed on for a decent 4th over this c & d behind subsequent winner Gimme The Stars on his local debut last month. He had today’s fancied rival JUST LIKE MAGIC much further behind him and the 3rd placed runner En Gee Oh boosted the formline with a victory over the latter next time out. The top selection is his yard’s only entrant for today.
