Winning Form Best Bets

Race 1: WANTON CHILD(9)
Race 2: PONTEDERA(1)
Race 3: BANDSMAKEHERDANCE(11)
Race 6: CLOUD RUNNER(4)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: STRIKING POSE(3)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Clinton BINDA

STRIKING POSE is once again raiding Kimberley and he has strong claims of going one better than his two close c & d seconds in this province. He had a fair last Highveld effort and is the one to beat.

Top Bet:

Race 2: PONTEDERA(1)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Tienie PRINSLOO

A smart field has assembled for this pinnacle stakes contest over nine furlongs and the red-hot chestnut PONTEDERA is again the horse to beat. The Judpot gelding was super-impressive when he thrashed EVERCELL over an extra two furlongs last time and he is again best in on official ratings. Admittedly, he takes on a few up-and-coming types that will provide a stiffer test but the five-year old also has more to offer, particularly with Fortune in the irons and he should go very close to winning.

Race 6: CLOUD RUNNER(4)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Tienie PRINSLOO

The ultra-consistent mare CLOUD RUNNER has solid credentials in this low-key affair but her wide draw is the obvious obstacle. She has a cracking c & d record and has done well with Fortune, who needs to be at his level-best in negotiating the barrier position. Still, the Tienie Prinsloo inmate gets the nod to defy the odds.

Race 7: JUST A JAG(2)

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Duncan MCKENZIE

JUST A JAG is a lightly raced four-year old who was impressive when he led throughout to win his local debut over this c & d, two weeks ago. He rises in class today but clearly has lots more to offer and he should strip fitter. The son of A P Answer could have a bright future in this province.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: MCGEEK(12)
Jockey: Matthew THACKERAY – Trainer: Duncan MCKENZIE

MCGEEK is in decent form and his record proves that this is his best distance. Nevertheless, he had two useful recent efforts over a mile and could be the one to beat here. His pole barrier position is a major plus and he merits obvious respect with another low mass.
