MAXI MILLION made huge improvement when she recovered from a slightly slow start on her local debut over this c & d, four weeks ago. She was 2nd best behind a form runner that day and would have come on with that effort. She has now joined an in-form yard and the lightly raced daughter of Rock Of Rochelle has more scope for improvement.
Race 4: DEFENDER OF PEACE(5)
Jockey: Murray C – Trainer: Spies C
DEFENDER OF PEACE is finding some of his better form and he ran on well for 2nd behind EVERCELL over nine furlongs on this track last Monday. He faces his conqueror on 1.5kgs better terms for that 2.50 lengths defeat and could relish going over this extra two furlongs. He once again has a handy gallopi- ng mass and can reverse the form. The latter continues to be a model of consistency and he was given a great ride from the front to win last time out. He was handed a four pound penalty but has a good record over this extra two furlongs and merits obvious respect. The main concerns though are his big mass and he will be without regular pilot Muzi Yeni.
Race 5: SLEUTH(10)
Jockey: Thackeray M – Trainer: McKenzie D A
SLEUTH was given a great ride as she recorded a much deserved first local victory over a mile, three weeks ago. The daughter of Right Approach’s run was well-timed by her apprentice jockey and she drew off to beat SHADY CAT by just under two lengths at the line. That earned her a five pound penalty and she is 2kgs worse off with the runner-up but this extra furlong should be right up her alley and she can confirm the form. Her good draw is a major advantage and she can certainly follow-up.
Race 9: CROKE PARK(7)
Jockey: Khumalo S – Trainer: Human L J
CROKE PARK continues to be consistent and despite doing things the hard way, he finished strongly for a close 2nd over six furlongs last Monday. His good draw and the extra furlong firmly places things in his favour and the Mullins Bay gelding can finally get that deserved fourth career win.
Race 8: JACK FRIDAY(1)
Jockey: Wrogemann G – Trainer: Human L J
JACK FRIDAY is coming back to hand and he was far from disgraced in stronger company over nine furlongs, seven days ago. It could certainly pay to follow the progress of Defender Of Peace in an earlier contest as the latter was runner-up in the same event as the top rating last time out. This five-year old entire’ has always preferred the mile and the drop in distance and class will be right up his alley. He isn’t the stable elect but gets a decent heavyweight jockey in the saddle and can pull this off from pole position.
