Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 1: THE CARPENTER(7)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Charles LAIRD

THE CARPENTER showed good improvement over the mile on this course recently despite some excuses and he can build on that progress this afternoon. He jumps from a good draw and the slight drop in trip should suit him well. The Fort Wood gelding gets the services of top jockey Brandon Lerena.

Race 5: OVIDIO(1) (Shared Race With Kenilworth)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM
– Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The defending champion OVIDIO has enjoyed a smashing prep for this contest and he went down narrowly under a huge mass over two miles three weeks ago. The six-year-old top weighted gelding is extremely well treated by the weights on official ratings and he looks set to make a successful defence of his title.

Race 7: NOODLE(4)
Jockey: Alec FORBES – Trainer: Tony RIVALLAND

NOODLE has reserved her best efforts for this surface and her versatility is apparent in her formline. She jumps from a good draw and should take a power of beating.

TOP BET
Race 8: VARIETY ROMP(6)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Charles LAIRD

VARIETY ROMP was expected to do better in his last start eight days ago but the slow start, coupled with the shorter trip may have accounted for the below-par performance from trainer Charles Laird’s charge. The lightly raced six-year-old had solid c & d form prior to that effort and he should quickly bounce back tonight.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 4: COLMANT(9)

Jockey: Eric S NGWANE – Trainer: Michael ROBERTS

COLMANT’s c & d record is shocking but the Kahal gelding has improved significantly since being equipped with blinkers and he could be an entirely different proposition tonight. He finished his last c & d start well despite some traffic problems and is weighted to reverse the three parts of a length deficit with DELICIOUS DAMOWIN. His good draw is a major plus and the chestnut gelding represents decent each/way value.
