Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: INTERCEPT(5)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Garth PULLER

INTERCEPT found plenty of betting support when she posted a smart debut over seven furlongs on the grass at Scottsville in June. She was understandably green but ran on well for 2nd, beaten just under two lengths at the line and the daughter of Visionaire would have come on with that experience. She could enjoy this drop in distance on her polytrack debut and merits healthy respect with Anton Marcus in the saddle.

TOP BET
Race 4: GREAT EXPECTATIONS(5)
Jockey: Sean VEALE – Trainer: Dennis DRIER

It could pay to follow the progress of Shezaleader in the prior event as that rival finished behind the top selection of this event, GREAT EXPECTATIONS when the pair met behind Humidor over this trip at Scottsville just over two months ago. This lightly raced inmate from the Drier yard ran on strongly for a close 2nd behind the course record holder in his only post maiden outing and he has huge room for improvement. The son of Seventh Rock landed the gamble on his polytrack debut in his penultimate start and that formline has worked out extremely well. The four-year old bay gelding appears way ahead of the handicapper at this early stage and he should take a power of beating today.

Race 5: THE SLADE(12)

Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

This is an extremely competitive maiden plate and this formline could be worth following. THE SLADE is highly regarded by his conditioner and he was quietly fancied when producing an eye-catching debut against winners over this distance on the grass, three weeks ago. The son of Philanthropist was slow into stride and green but still made late headway to finish 4th despite the tailwind conditions. He drops in class on his seasonal debut and like many of his trainer’s horses, the chestnut colt would have come on appreciably from that first experience. Furthermore, the yard’s runners have an excellent record on the polytrack & the top selection could be worth following.

Race 8: BUSTER BROWN(1)

Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: CG EUDEY

Once again the pace will be lively in this handicap affair and the usually consistent BUSTER BROWN could earn that deserved third career victory. He failed to kick on in a slow run c & d affair a fort- night ago but is gradually dropping in the merit ratings and the engaging of top jockey Anton Marcus is extremely encouraging. The five-year old chestnut gelding is at his best over this c & d and he gets the verdict.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 9: FASHION SECRET(11)
Jockey: M WINNAAR – Trainer: C SCOTT

In keeping with the theme of the day, this is another handicap that is blessed with a few natural speedsters who should ensure a true run contest. FASHION SECRET has improved her formline since relocating to this province but she perhaps failed to see out the distance in her last start. She was heavily supported in both her local displays on this surface and the chestnut mare will be an entirely different proposition over this trip. The five-year old inmate from the Scott yard has obviously shown decent work on this surface back home and she could be a serious threat on her peak effort. She has another low mass to shoulder and the pace will suit her perfectly.
